Abstract

1,212,787. Cutting by fusion. MESSER GRIESHEIM G.m.b.H. 3 Oct., 1968 [5 Oct., 1967], No. 47029/68. Addition to 1,205,616. Heading B3V. [Also in Division F4] In a method of flame cutting a kerf of predetermined depth in a workpiece as claimed in the parent Specification, the heating gas is supplied to the torch nozzle unilaterally or eccentrically with respect to the cutting oxygen. A cut is formed using a torch nozzle with the cutting oxygen bore 10 disposed eccentrically in relation to the heating gas passage 12. A torch having five such nozzles fed from single cutting oxygen and heating gas inlets (14) and (16) (Fig. 5, not shown) may be used to form a J-shaped cut. The torch nozzles are arranged obliquely with respect to the direction of advance of the torch, the cut edge position 20 or 21 being determined according to the number of nozzles in operation. The cut edge position can be varied by rotating the torch. A slit nozzle may alternatively be used having heating slits disposed only on one side. A conventional nozzle may be used with some of the heating gas openings closed.
