Abstract
1,211,547. Ketones. FISONS INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS Ltd. 26 Sept., 1968 [12 Oct., 1967], No. 46564/67, Heading C2C. [Also in Division C1] A ketone is produced by feeding a ketazine, e.g. methyl ethyl ketazine, and water to a distillation column operated at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure, a zone at the feed point of the ketazine having plates so designed that the residence time is greater than in other parts of the column. An aqueous solution of hydrazine is recovered as bottoms, and the ketone as distillate. The column may be operated at 150-200 C. and at 2-25 atm. above atm. pressure. The ketazine and water may be fed separately (the ketazine below the water) or mixed. The feeds may be heated to 60-160 C. Preferably, the feed zone has 2-7 theoretical plates and the other zone 3-15; the feed zone may contain 2-6 actual plates with high weirs having an overall residence time of 3-15 minutes, and the remainder of the column may be packed with mesh.
