Abstract

1,169,220. Electric timepieces. CITIZEN TOKEI K.K. Dec.29, 1966 [Dec. 30, 1965; July 12, 1966], No. 58235/66. Heading G3T. An electronic timepiece comprises a transistor drive circuit 107 suitable to be fed by a battery 108, a 'W'-shaped vibrator 84 electromagnetically driven by the circuit and a magnetic wheel 32 magnetically coupled with magnets 119, 120 attached to the U-shaped arms 84d, 84e of the vibrator. The base 84a of the vibrator is spot welded to a mounting piece 174 and secured to a plate 30 of the timepiece by screws 75, 76. The arms of the vibrator are bent along lines b-b<SP>1</SP>, d-d<SP>1</SP> to lie in planes at right angles to the plane of the base 84a and each magnet 119, 120 comprises four limbs in the shape of a rectangle. Each magnet has a gap in one of its shorter limbs for co-operation with the wheel 32. Magnetic yokes 106, 106a and counter weights 141, 141a are supported at opposite ends of each magnet, the yokes co-operating with search and drive coil assemblies 55, 73. Fine adjustment of the position of the vibrator assembly with respect to the wheel 32 is effected by rotating an eccentric cam 49. Adjustment of the axial position of the wheel 32 with respect to the gap in the magnets is effected by changing the thickness of shims 26-28 which alter the height of the mount 29 for the wheel 32. The frequencies of the vibrating arms may be equalised by adjusting magnetic screws such as 56 of the coil assemblies 55, 73. A flywheel 39 is freely rotatable on the shaft 40 of the magnetic wheel 32, the motion of which is transmitted through a gear train to drive seconds, minutes and hours hands. The timepiece is started by pushing in a stem shaft 25 which closes a switch to connect the battery to the transistor circuit. Figs. 10-13 (not shown), illustrate modified forms of the vibrator whilst Figs. 14-18 (not shown) illustrate modified forms of the magnets 119, 120.
