Abstract

116,620. Tunnell, R. W. Sept. G, 1917. Adhesives; dextrin.-A vegetable glue, capable of use in veneering and in making joints, consists of hydrolyzed starch treated with an alkali-metal aluminate. When the starch has been hydrolyzed by caustic soda or other alkali in known manner, it may receive an addition of alum amounting to 5-50 per cent of the alkali used. Aluminium sulphate may replace alum. Separately-prepared alkali aluminate sotution may be added to starch hydrolyzed by acid or alkali. Plumbates are mentioned as being unsuitabe for addition.
