Abstract

1,123,297. Transistor oscillators, ASSOCIATED SEMICONDUCTOR Mfrs. Ltd. 17 April, 1967, No. 17434/67. Heading H3T. [Also in Divisions G1 and H1] In an oscillator circuit for a transistor 1 an outer tube C surrounds an inner tube B and a bent wire or tape E is positioned within the inner tube. The outer tube C which may be square section is insulated from the inner tube B so as to provide an open circuit line. The collector c of the transistor 1 has a heat sink 2 and the base b may be spring biased to contact a side 3 of the inner tube B. The emitter e is connected to a gold plated block 4 to which is connected the wire E, which may be of gold. This wire may be wound round an insulated bolt projecting through a hole in the righthand side of the tube C. The circuit provides a microwave oscillator which may be used to test transistors by successively plugging them into the circuit and comparing the output with that of a known satisfactory transistor as regards, e.g. power or ability to oscillate over a finite band or for grading their performance. Bias supplies 5 and 6 are provided and the output is taken from the coaxial line 9. An r.f. shield is provided by the outer tube C and a side of the tube C is movable to provide access for changing the transistors. The inner tube B and wire E are shown open circuited but they need not be.
