Abstract

1,113,559. Feeding webs. PAPER CONVERTING MACHINE CO. Inc. 16 Nov., 1966 [20 July, 1965], No. 51385/66. Heading B6F. Pin-tractor feeds.-Apparatus for feeding webs having edge perforation feed holes, comprises a first belt 15 constructed of elastomeric material which is flexible but not elongatable, and is formed with internal transverse ribs 14 for engagement with driving gears and with external pins 23 for engagement with the web 11 feed holes, the first belt 15 coacting with a second belt 16 having holes 28 to receive the pins 23 and thereby clamp the web 11 for feeding. The lower of the two belts may run over idler pulleys, Fig. 7, which press the lower belt 212 into and raise slightly the lower run of the upper belt 213. The gears may have raised edge flanges which assist in removing the pins from the web. The feed pins may be pressed into position as shown in Fig. 3, or they may be formed as cranked brackets (129), Fig. 6 (not shown), so that the pins are below the pitch line, i.e. the pitch diameter of the gears. This causes the pin (123) to quickly disengage itself from the web holes in assembled multi-copy webs.
