Abstract
1,112,084. Measuring liquid levels electrically. ASHMORE, BENSON, PEASE & CO. Ltd. Aug. 9, 1965 [Aug. 6, 1964], No. 32135/64. Heading G1N. Apparatus for determining the level of material 13 in a bin 12 comprises a probe 14 which is lowered by a cable 15 into the bin, contact between the probe and the material being sensed by the change in current taken by the drive motor 22. This is used to reverse the motor and raise the probe 14 until a counterweight 21 at the other end of cable 15 reaches a limit stop 31, when motor 22 is again reversed to lower the probe into the bin again. This cycle is continuously repeated. A selsyn transmitter 24 is mechanically coupled to motor 22, and electrically coupled to an indicator 28, which thus indicates the position of probe 14 continuously or only at the end of the inward travel. The control circuit, containing alarm devices, is described Fig. 2 (not shown).
