1,068,015. Clutch-brake combinations; clutch control; friction clutches; disc brakes. ELITEX, SDRUZENI PODNIKU TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI. Jan. 25, 1965 [Jan. 24, 1964], No. 3104/65. Headings F2C, F2E and F2L. A clutch-brake combination comprises an interconnected brake disc 13, helical toothed pinion 7 and clutch disc 12 slidable on a fixed pin 1, 3, 4, a driving pulley 9 mounted by bearing 8 on pin 1, 3, 4 and carrying a friction lining 11 and a driven gear 20 permanently meshing with pinion 7. A spring 18 biases the disc/pinion combination 7, 12, 13 toward a fixed friction lining 28 on frame 2. A lever 25 engages a rod 24 carrying a pin 23 in opening 22 in pin 1, 3, 4 to move bearing 8 and pulley 9. As shown, the pulley and disc/pinion combination have: been moved to disengage the brake 13, 28 to drive gear 20 from pulley 9; if lever 25 is moved to the right the spring 18 applies the brake and the clutch 11, 12 slips to stop gear 20. The helical splines on pinion 7 and gear 20 increase the braking force up to a maximum value as determined mathematically in the Specification but decreases the starting torque when drive is transmitted to gear 20. An axial lubrication hole 29 in pin 1, 3, 4 terminates in a groove 30 to lubricate the sliding parts of the clutch-brake combination.
