An apparatus for receiving pressure fluids has a pressure chamber 12 with a mouth closed by an element 36 abutting on a seating 22 in the chamber with sealing means 48 co-operating at 52 with a seating 20, a wedge 66 with a surface 76 movable to and from contact with a wedging surface 32 in a peripheral groove 26 around the wall 28 of the chamber outside the closing element and a cam device 84 mounted on the element 36 and having a camming surface 98 which moves the surface 72 into contact with the surface 32 and a camming surface 102 which removes it therefrom. The seal 48 is of metal, welded on to the plug portion 38 of the element 36 and the angle that the outside of its lip 52 makes with the axis of the chamber opening is 2 degrees less than that made by the conical seating 20 so that when the element is pushed into the opening until the plug seats on a chamber surface at 22, the seating 20 deforms the lip 52 elastically to form a seal. The ring,of wedges 66 around the tail 40 of the element 36 are held together by an endless spring 82 and the contacting surfaces 32 and 76 are driven together by tightening eight screwed studs 108 which draw the conical surface 98 of the cam 84 against the conical surfaces 70 of the wedges. To remove the wedges the cam is first withdrawn by the jack-screw 110, the cam is then inverted with the conical surface 102 against the cam surfaces 72 (Fig. 3, not shown) and the screws, which have been reversed in the cam, tightened to draw the wedges from under the surface 32.
