Abstract
1,054,590. Folding bicycle. E. SUMNER. Nov. 29, 1965 [Dec. 17, 1964], No. 51332/64. Heading B7E. A folding bicycle comprises a forward part 1 including a front wheel fork 3, and a rearward part 2 including a rear wheel fork 8, the parts 1, 2 being pivoted together by a bolt 9 extending through the rear fork 8 and a sleeve 11 connected to a front frame member 5 of the part 1, the bolt 9 being horizontal but inclined to the axes of the wheels (not shown), so that when folded the rear wheel lies alongside the front wheel. The frame member 5 has an extension 12 terminating in a cupped plate 13, which engages a rubber block or blocks 15 disposed in a socket 14 rigidly fixed in the rear fork 8, when the bicycle is in its riding condition. A spring catch 16 engages the plate 13 so that the bicycle is liftable without folding but may be released by jerking to fold the bicycle. The handle bar stem is in two pieces; the lower part is secured in the fork column by an expander bolt 19, and the upper part is fitted on to the lower part and detachably secured thereto by a locking screw 17. The saddle can be locked at an adjusted height by a device 18.
