Abstract

1,051,413. Thermographic processes. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTION N. V. Feb.7, 1964 [Feb.7, 1963], No. 5330/64. Heading G2C. A thermographic process comprises imagewise exposing a polyester layer to heat which softens the layer which can be developed by applying a powder which adheres to the latent image areas; the crystalline polyester being either (i) a polyester of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid with an aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic diol or (ii) a polyester of an aliphatic and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with an aliphatic and/or a cycloaliphatic diol. The polyester preferably melts between 40 degrees and 160‹C with a melting range of 25‹C. The developing powder may be coloured metal or glass granules, powders which react with a compound in the polyester layer (e. g. gallic acid and ferric compounds or an oxidant and a leuco base), capsules containing liquids, pastes, magnetic powders and dyed thermoplastics. Where necessary, the powder image may be fixed by heat and/or pressure. In the examples, a polyester layer of polyethylene sebacate, polyethylene adipate or polyethylene sebacate/iso-or tere-phthalate is coated on a paper support and image-wise exposed and developed with a powder. The powder image may be transferred to a transparent receptor sheet and used as a transparency in a diazotype process.
