Abstract

1,048,460. Brakes servomotor. MIDLAND ROSS CORPORATION. June 25, 1965 [Aug. 24, 19641, No. 26968/65. Headings F2E and F2F. In a power-operated brake comprising a pressure-operated servomotor and a pedal actuating a valve thereof there is substantially no pressure reaction from the motor to the pedal, feel being provided by spring means. Movement of the pedal 21 advances member 71 of the vacuum suspended servomotor 10 leftwards as seen in Fig. 1, a spring 89 moving a diaphragm valve lever 54 anti-clockwise about pivot 56 and carrying sleeve 61 leftwards until valve 52 closes the passage 51 between chambers 22 and 23. Further leftward movement of member 71 opens valve 73, 75 to open chamber 22 to atmosphere. As the diaphragm moves, tube 61 is carried with lever 54 to reclose valve 55, 53. Spring 86 is compressed as the pedal moves to apply an increasing " feel " force to the pedal. After initial movement to take up slack and bring the shoes into contact with the brake drum a split ring 99 gripping member 71 abuts a second spring 96 to give an increased rate of change of " feel." Should wear of linings result in increased slack the position of ring 99 is adjusted to suit by a full depression of the pedal when ring 99 abuts the end of tube 97 and slides on the member 91. Taper screws 104 allow the position of the ring to be adjusted manually.
