Abstract

The composition material (10) is made from a knitted reinforcing layer embedded in a supple thermofusible matrix and covered by two thin surface layers (14). The reinforcing layer is preferably about 1 mm thick and is coated with adhesive (15), preferably protected prior to use by a peel-off film, for sticking it to the surface layers. The knitted material is of steel wire, preferably protected against corrosion, and most preferably of galvanised or stainless steel, and it has holes in it of between 3 and 10 mm in diameter, and preferably of 5 mm. The weight of the knitted layer is preferably between 400 and 600 g/sq m. It can be embedded by sandwiching between two layers of thermofusible material and heating.

Description

2877876 12877876 1

The subject of the present invention is: a composite of a new type having a flexible structure; a process for the preparation of said composite; and - the use of said composite as reinforcing means and / or securing means of surfaces, in other words a reinforcing process and / or securing surfaces based on the intervention of said composite.

The composite, main object of the present invention, has been developed to provide a satisfactory solution, more satisfactory than those existing to date, the problem of theft of goods during their transport in trucks or train cars. Said composite has been developed more particularly in the context of the development of anti-burglary systems, anti-laceration for tarpaulins, including trucks. On reading the following, it will be realized that its outlets are not limited to said context.

Many road vehicles have instead of rigid walls (metal walls or composite panels) tarpaulins, usually polyester canvas. These sheets are flexible walls, light, easy to handle during loading and unloading implemented on each side of the vehicle. These tarpaulins, however, have a major disadvantage: they are fracturable, tearing with the help of tools like knife, cutter, cutting pliers ...

In such a context, tarpaulins with reinforced complex structures have been proposed, such as those described in patent applications FR 2 657 894, 2 736 880, 2 821 630 and 2 840 569 and, according to another concept, protective systems. anti-theft to attach to canvas tarpaulins, pre-existing. In particular, composites based on steel wires with corrugations, embedded in PVC to be secured to said tarpaulins have been proposed. The steel wires are bound and kept spaced from each other by thinner wires so that the metal structure in question is a woven structure, the flexibility of which develops mainly in one and only direction: longitudinal (that of the undulations ). Such composites, so far on the market, weigh more than 2 kg per m2.

The composite of the invention is of the same concept. However, it is an improvement to the composite of the prior art 2877876 2 mentioned above. It is notably more flexible, in all directions, and lighter.

The composite of the invention typically has a flexible structure, having two main faces and a small thickness, and essentially comprising a deformable knitted reinforcement, advantageously metallic, embedded in a flexible hot melt matrix.

The composite of the invention is flexible in all its dimensions: in length, in width and across; in other words, it is flexible according to its length, according to its width (more generally according to its two main dimensions which can be equal if one considers a square of said composite) and according to its diagonals.

This multi-directional flexibility is based on its original structure, the intervention of a deformable reinforcement in all directions (a knit deformable in all directions, preferably a metal knit deformable in all directions) within a flexible matrix . The term "deformable" used to characterize the knitted reinforcement means in the present description and the appended claims deformable in all directions.

The deformable knit (knit reinforcement) is embedded in a flexible hot-melt matrix. It, and more particularly its ends, is stabilized in said matrix. This flexible matrix contributes to the flexibility of the whole structure. It is hot melt. This characteristic is essential for the preparation of the composite. It is also advantageous in that it allows repair ("self-healing") of said damaged composite. This flexible hot-melt matrix is used in sufficient quantity to coat the deformable knitted reinforcement, advantageously in an amount sufficient to allow repairs. It intervenes in limited quantity, with reference to the thickness of the composite, insofar as there is no need to involve it in excessive quantity, with reference to the flexibility, the cost price and the weight of the composite.

Said composite which has two main faces and a small thickness is generally in the form of webs. It can be packaged in rolls.

For its use, developed below, as a means of reinforcement and / or securing surfaces, it must be fixed, secured to said surfaces. To this end, it is possible to use any means of attachment, of adequate fastening. Such means may be independent of the structure of the composite or, according to an advantageous variant, provided in said structure.

Thus, according to said advantageous variant, the flexible structure of the composite of the invention comprises, in addition to the deformable knit and the flexible hot-melt matrix, means for securing said composite to surfaces. Such means may in particular comprise an adhesive. Such an adhesive is advantageously arranged uniformly on one of the main faces of the composite. To facilitate the handling of said composite, it advantageously neutralizes said adhesive by providing a peelable protective film thereof, on the face of the composite where it occurs. This film is removed during the implementation of the bonding of the composite to the surface concerned, bonding based on the intervention of the adhesive.

Such an adhesive intervenes advantageously on a support. Thus, according to a preferred embodiment, the composite of the invention has a flexible structure which comprises, in addition to the deformable knit embedded in the flexible hot-melt matrix, on one of its main faces, a support impregnated with adhesive, for example for example a textile support such as a nonwoven, impregnated with adhesive, preferably protected by a peelable film. The impregnated support must obviously not significantly affect the flexibility of the entire composite.

In general, it is noted that the securing means in question, for example the adhesive, have a nature adapted to the intended use of the composite in whose structure they intervene. Said adhesive, of the glue type, is thus advantageously designed to withstand temperatures ranging for example from -30 ° C. to + 70 ° C.

It is proposed to specify hereinafter, in no way limiting, the nature of the main constituent elements of the composite of the invention.

The thinness of the structure of said composite has been discussed. It can be indicated here that it is generally between 0.5 and 2 mm. It is advantageously about 1 mm.

As regards the flexible hot-melt matrix, it is advantageously based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This material offers a compromise properties / cost: returns particularly interesting. Other materials, such as Kevlar (which however has the disadvantage of being an expensive material), are quite likely to agree.

As regards the deformable knitted reinforcement, it is advantageously metallic, i.e. based on metal son. The metal in question is very generally steel. This metal offers an interesting compromise properties (including cut resistance to reasonable diameters) / cost. The intervening steel wires are advantageously protected from corrosion. The deformable knitted reinforcement is therefore very advantageously based on galvanized steel wire or stainless steel wire. It is not excluded to use another metal, such as tungsten, especially in contexts where the criterion of cold resistance is not critical.

The use of other types of material - other than metal - is not excluded. The materials in question must be capable of generating a deformable knitted resistant structure. The composites of the invention can thus contain a knitted reinforcement based on carbon fibers, Kevlar fibers or a mixture of such fibers. Such a frame, no doubt powerful, however, is a cost price. The use of glass fibers may also be possible in contexts where the criterion of cold resistance is not critical ...

The deformable knitted reinforcement - advantageously the deformable metallic knit - present in the structure of the composite of the invention is advantageously optimized to best ensure its protective barrier function while combining flexibility and maximum lightness. In such an optimization context: the son, advantageously metallic, intervening, have a diameter neither too fine nor too large, advantageously a diameter of between 0.24 and 0.55 mm, very advantageously a diameter of between 0, 26 and 0.45 mm; the knit, advantageously metallic knit, has meshes, openings, advantageously of an equivalent diameter of between 2877876 and 10 mm, very advantageously with an equivalent diameter of approximately 5 mm; said knit, advantageously metallic, is advantageously a knit jersey stitch; - Said knit, advantageously metallic, advantageously has a basis weight between 300 and 800 g / m2, very advantageously a weight of between 400 and 600 g / m2.

The flexible structure of the composite of the invention advantageously comprises a knit of deformable steel son embedded in a polyvinyl chloride matrix. Said knit has very advantageously the characteristics stated above in the context of optimization.

According to its second object, the present invention relates to a method for preparing a composite, as described above (composite which constitutes the first object of said invention). Said method comprises the preparation of a deformable knit, advantageously metallic, followed by the coating of said knit in a flexible hot-melt matrix. More specifically, it comprises: the preparation of a deformable knit, advantageously metallic; - maintaining said knit between two sheets of a flexible thermofusible material; the heat treatment of the assembly thus formed at a temperature sufficient to ensure the melting of said sheets and thus the generation of the expected matrix coating said knit.

The knit, advantageously metallic, is prepared in a known manner per se, from adequate threads (neither too fine nor too big).

It then intervenes sheets of the flexible thermofusible material. Such sheets will generate the thin matrix expected by fusion. It can not be totally excluded to use sheets of materials of different kinds; such materials are obviously compatible.

The method of the invention, as described above, may further comprise fixing, to the composite obtained, fastening means to surfaces. Such fixing is implemented on one of the main faces of said composite obtained.

It can be the fixing of an adhesive, advantageously followed by a step of protecting said adhesive fixed by depositing on it a peelable film.

It is advantageously the attachment, to one of the main faces of the matrix, a support, for example a textile support, such a nonwoven, impregnated with adhesive. Said impregnated support is advantageously used conditioned between two peelable films. It is rid of one of said films for its attachment to the composite of the invention. It is subsequently freed from the other of said films for fixing said composite to a surface.

According to its third object, the present invention relates to the use of the composites as described above and / or as prepared according to the method described above.

According to its third object, the present invention relates to a method of securing and / or reinforcing surfaces which comprises the joining to said surfaces of a composite as described above and / or as prepared above.

The surfaces in question, which can be of various kinds, are thus consolidated and protected from external and internal aggressions.

The joining of the composite to said surfaces may use external means, independent of the structure of the composite. Advantageously, however, it has been seen that the structure of the composites of the invention contains such securing means, in particular of the adhesive type. That such an adhesive intervenes, as securing means included or not in the composite structure, said joining is done by laying said composite on the surface and application of adequate pressure. It is thus possible to apply a mechanical or hydraulic pressure ... It is by no means excluded to use other securing means.

It has been stated that the surfaces to be protected with the composites of the invention can be of various kinds. It may in particular be tarpaulins, for example truck tarpaulins, wagons, construction sites ... tarpaulins (for example storage tents, pressurized tents, etc.), tarpaulins of tanks or tanks or retention basins, walls, floors or ceilings. This list is by no means exhaustive. The surfaces 2877876 7 in question, equipped with the composite of the invention, are reinforced and in particular protected from drilling by metal objects.

In the context of the process of the invention, the composite is advantageously secured to the inner faces of the sheets or sheets. We spoke above of a possibility of protection vis-à-vis external and internal aggression. Thus, in a context of truck tarpaulins or wagon, the composite, secured to the inner face of said tarpaulins, protects said inner face from premature wear due to changes, helps maintain loads and protects said loads from external aggression ... .

Those skilled in the art have understood the whole point of the present invention. This is also apparent from the consideration of the appended figures.

In Figure 1, it has been shown in perspective, a composite of the prior art, secured to a surface to protect and / or strengthen.

In Figures 2A and 3, there is schematised the development of a composite of the invention.

Figure 2B is an enlargement of an area of Figure 2A. FIG. 4 schematizes the use of a composite of the invention, that is to say its attachment to a surface to be protected and / or reinforced.

The prior art composite 1 is based on a metal weave 2 which comprises corrugated steel wires 2 'bonded together and kept spaced from each other by much finer steel wires 2 ". metallic woven fabric 2 is embedded in a PVC matrix 3. It is easy to imagine that such a composite 1 is likely to develop flexibility only mainly along its length.

Said composite 1 has been secured to the back of the surface 4.

A composite of the invention 10, its preparation and its use is now described with reference to FIGS. 2A, 2B, 3 and 4.

Said composite 10 is obtained from the deformable metallic knit 12 (itself obtained from metal threads 12 ') which has openings 12 "and two sheets of PVC 19 (under the effect of heat, said sheets 19 On one of the main faces of said knit 10, a nonwoven impregnated with adhesive 15 is adhered to by its non-protected adhesive face 15 ', and its other face 15' is protected by the peelable film 16. It is conceivable that said nonwoven 15 was initially conditioned between two peelable films of the same type. The composite 10 having on one of its main faces the impregnated nonwoven 15 protected by the film 16 may be packaged in rolls.

For its use, it is freed of said film 16 and presented, face 15 "of the nonwoven impregnated with adhesive, with respect to the surface 14 on which it will be fixed.

The surfaces 4 of FIG. 1 and 14 of FIG. 4 may especially consist of polyester sheets.

Finally, it is proposed to illustrate the invention by the example below. A composite of the invention has been obtained, which has the following characteristics: - thickness: 1 mm - PVC matrix - deformable metal knit with a grammage of 480 g / m2, with openings with an equivalent diameter of 5 mm made from 0.30 mm diameter steel yarn, in stocking stitch, as shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 2A to 4 weight: 1.6 1.7 kg / m 2.

Such a composite is particularly effective for securing truck tarpaulins.
