Abstract

A bell or mute for a brass wind instrument such as a trumpet, horn, trombone or tuba, is made from a natural wood from one of the following species of tree: rosewood, black rosewood, ebony, box, ziricote or olive, having a density of over 0.75, which prevents the wood from swelling under the effects of humidity. The bell is fitted detachably to the instrument, e.g. by a bayonet joint, clips or a threaded joint.

Description

The present invention relates to a horn or a mute for a copper wind musical instrument such as a trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, or the like. It also concerns the musical instrument comprising this pavilion or this mute.

The flags of the classical instruments are one with the rest of the instrument, and are therefore made of copper.

They only produce a nuance of specific sound, very classic.

The known mutes, used with this type of instrument, are made of metallic material or alloys of metallic materials, and also produce only a very precise nuance of sound.

The present invention aims to remedy these limitations, by providing instruments or mutes enabling new, beautiful and harmonious sounds to be obtained.

It also aims to provide instruments whose tones can be modified according to needs, therefore adapted to the work played, or mutes allowing to modify the tones of instruments of this genre, whether they are classical instruments. made of copper or of instruments according to the invention.

To this end, the pavilion or the mute that it concerns is characterized in that they are made of raw wood.

The possibility of vibration of the raw wood, not limited by any coating, allows obtaining special, rich and pleasant tones, different from the classic tones of existing pavilions or mutes.

Advantageously, the species of wood which are selected to constitute the pavilions or mutes according to the invention are as follows:
- rosewood (dalbergia), to obtain a nuance of its so-called "rich roundness"
- violet wood (dalbergia nigra), to obtain a nuance of its so-called "generous and distinguished
- ebony (grassiflora), to obtain a nuance of its so-called "powerful and elegant"
- boxwood (buxus), to obtain a nuance of its so-called "soft"
- coco-bolo (dalbergia), to obtain a nuance of its so-called "majestic"
- ziricote (Mexico), to obtain a nuance of its so-called "noble"
- olive tree (olea europea), to obtain a nuance of its so-called "brilliant".

Preferably, the horn is removably mounted on the body of the instrument.

The pavilion can therefore be interchanged as needed, and be chosen according to the shade of sound most suited to the work to be played.

As for the mute, it is by nature removable. Given that it exists in several species of wood, it also makes it possible to choose according to the nuance of sound most suited to the work, both on a classical instrument, with a copper horn, and on an instrument according to the invention, with wooden pavilion.

The different possible combinations of pavilions and mutes allow obtaining very many different sounds.

The mounting system for the horn or the mute can be of any suitable type, and is advantageously of the quick-handling type, such as of the bayonet, snap-on, screw-on or similar type.

Thus, the replacement of the pavilion by another or the mute by another can be done during the same performance, insofar as the artist must play works with different rhythms and sounds.

The species of wood used preferably have a density greater than 0.75. This density influences the obtaining of the tones and makes it possible to avoid the phenomenon of swelling of the wood under the effect of humidity.
