Abstract

Appts. for recovering oil slicks from the sea surface comprises a floating mobile platform with openings in its front edge for crude petroleum to enter an enclosure for sepn. of water from oil. The openings have shutters which can be adjusted in height by electronic controllers according to the level of the sea and the waves in relation to the platform, so as to maintain the upper edge of the shutters at the level of the sea surface. The platform has pref. two lateral stabilisers placed obliquely in the extension of the front edge to guide the oil towards the openings. The stabilisers constitute housings for the floating barrage, constituted by a cable connected to the platform and to a towing ship, and carrying regularly spaced floats connected by a plastic band constituting the barrage proper. The bulk of liq. entering through the openings has a high proportion of oil, so that the sepn. appts. can operate at a high degree of efficiency.
