Abstract

The gearbox for a heavy construction vehicle has four forward gear ratios and three reverse gear ratios, and has a hydrodynamic torque converter preceding it. The gear casing is in one piece and the layshaft gears are on layshafts fixed in the casing and the input shaft is mounted in a casing cover which closes a front opening of the gear casing. This opening is made large enough to enable the layshaft gears, clutches and bearings which have been preassembled, to be inserted through it. This gives a saving in production costs. The gear system includes clutches for the first and fourth gear ratios.
