Abstract

A combined injection and blow moulding machine for prodn. of bottles or similar hollow objects comprises a revolving polygonal revolver having on each side a mounting for a set of mandrels or the like on which the blanks and blow mouldings are fixed. The revolver transports these mandrels successively through various stations including an injection station for the blanks, a blowing station for blow moulding and ejector station. One of the intermediate stations comprises a transfer section, in which a complete set of mandrels complete with their mounting are transferred from the revolver to a rotation drum; this drum is constructed as a hot cabinet so that, receiving a set of mandrels together with blanks mounted on them, it can revolve and subject them to temp. equalisation for a relatively long period before returning them to the transfer position, at which they are returned to the revolver head for further treatment. Method can be used for the combined injection and blow moulding of thermoplastics articles, to obtain biaxial drawing or orientation of the material. The use of a revolving drum enables a sufficiently long temp. equalisation period to be incorporated without slowing down the general cycle of the revolver head.
