Abstract

The box sections are placed in abutting relationship and are placed under compression by cables (9), (10) passing through the decks of the sections. Correct positioning of the sections is ensured by profiled end faces (4, 5, 6, 7). Cavities in the end faces are aligned when the sections are positioned and receive concrete (13) which anchors steel bars (11, 12) locking the sections together and transmitting tension. The cavities may be inclided or curved with their ends opening onto the upper or lower faces of the decks. The cavities are formed by using removable mandrels positioned in the section moulds.
