Abstract

Bacteria are recovered from fermentation liquids by filtration on a filter precoated with a second microorganism. The latter pref. has a particle size 1,25-16 times greater than the bacteria, and is esp. one of the yeasts Candida tropicalis, C lipolytica, C. utilis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae or Torulopsis utilis. The bacteria are pref. Micrococcus spp., Pseudomonas spp., Bacillus spp. or Corynebacterium spp. The process is esp. useful for recovering edible bacterial protein from cultive media contg. a petroleum hydrocarbon source. Filtration yields are increased.
