Abstract

A process for the manufacture of a polymeric composition comprising easily flowable expandable particles of a polyvinyl aromatic compound, which method comprises contacting expandable particles of said polyvinyl aromatic compound containing a vaporizable blowing agent with a liquid coating agent, and then drying the resulting particles under conditions such that no significant expansion thereof takes place, said liquid coating agent being a homogeneous dispersion of a finely divided solid in a liquid which is volatile at the drying temperature, and which contains dissolving therein an anti-caking agent (as defined in the specification) and a binding agent having adhesive properties with respect to said particles, such being the proportion employed, of said coating agent that, once dried, the coating formed on the particles constitu and no more than 5% of the weight of a particle calculated on average.
