Description
- BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
- Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to a portable footrest, and more particularly, to a portable footrest with an adjustable width.
- Description of Related Art
- Referring to
FIG. 1 ,U.S Design Patent No. 273,252 discloses a footrest in which a top plate 10 has both sides on which legs 14 are attached via respective hinges 12. The legs 14 facing each other are foldable inwardly, and haverespective stopper protrusions 16 at inner surfaces thereof so as to catch the other end of a support18 of which one end is fixed at a lower surface of the top plate 10. - The thus-configured footrest has drawbacks in that the top plate 10 has a fixed width which is deficient in providing proper or comfortable support for a user who has long legs or wide thighs or for a user who needs comfortable support while relaxing.
- Moreover, the above-described conventional footrest employs hinges 12, which increases costs.
- BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
- The present invention overcomes the foregoing problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a portable footrest of which top plate has an adjustable width.
- To accomplish the object of the present invention, there is provided a portable footrest according to an embodiment of the present invention, comprising a top plate; a leg which supports the top plate and which is foldable; a support for maintaining the leg at an upright state; and a slider which has a square C-shaped sliding portion formed at a portion of both sides thereof and ended at an end thereof, and which has protrusions formed at a lower surface thereof, wherein said slider is arranged at both sides of the top plate, and wherein said sliding portion of the slider moves along an edge of the top plate. The protrusion of the slider stops when inserted into a plurality of holes formed at the top plate, and the slider stops sliding when the end thereof is brought into contact with a round portion of the leg.
- The top plate has a plurality of ribs formed in a lengthwise direction thereof, and each of the ribs has both ends with respective holes. The innermost rib has a receiving portion. The leg has ribs to be inserted among the ribs of the top plate, and each of the ribs of the leg has an end with a hole corresponding to the hole of the rib of the top plate. A pin is inserted into the hole of the rib of the top plate and into the hole of the rib of the leg such that the leg is inwardly rotatable.
- The portable footrest according to the present invention is advantageous in that sliders are arranged at both sides of the top plate to extend the width of the top plate, and the width of the portable footrest is same or smaller than that of the top plate to allow for convenience of carry.
- While the invention is described in detail with specific reference to a single embodiment for a portable footrest, there is no intent to limit the invention to the embodiment described hereinafter. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications may be made in the embodiment without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims of the invention.
- BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a conventional portable footrest. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a portable footrest according to the present invention. -
FIG. 3 is an exploded perspective view of a portable footrest according to the present invention. -
FIG. 4 is a plane view illustrating a top plate of a portable footrest according to the present invention. -
FIG. 5 is a cross sectional view of a portable footrest according to the present invention. - DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
- A footrest of the present invention comprises a
top plate 32, aslider 50 which is arranged slidablyon thetop plate 32, aleg 60 which supports thetop plate 32, and asupport 70 for maintaining theleg 60 at an upright state. - The
top plate 32 has a plurality ofribs 34 formed in a lengthwise direction thereof, and each of theribs 34 has both ends withrespective holes 35. The innermost rib has a receivingportion 40. - Referring to
FIG. 3 , thetop plate 32 has pairs ofclosing holes 45 andextension holes 44 formed by regular spacing and arranged symmetrically with each other. - The
slider 50 has a square C-shaped slidingportion 52 formed at a portion of both sides thereof and ended at anend 53 thereof. Theslider 50 has twoprotrusions 56 formed at a lower surface thereof Theleg 60 hasribs 66 to be inserted among theribs 34 of thetop plate 32, and each of theribs 66 of theleg 60 has an end with ahole 67 corresponding to thehole 35 of therib 34 of thetop plate 32. Apin 48 is inserted into thehole 35 of therib 34 of thetop plate 32 and into thehole 67 of therib 66 of theleg 60 such that theleg 60 is inwardly rotatable. Theleg 60 includes astopper portion 64 protruded to catch thesupport 70, ahook 62 for hooking theleg 60 to thesupport 70 when theleg 60 is folded inwardly, and a round portion 68which is brought into contact with thesupport 70 when theleg 60 stands upright so as to prevent theslider 50 from further sliding from thetop plate 32. - The
support 70 has ashaft 75 which is inserted into a hole 74 of afixing portion 72 accommodated and fixed in thereceiving portion 40, such that thesupport 70 is rotatable. Thesupport 70 has a main body with afirst space 76 and asecond space 78, and has anend 79 which can be caught at thestopper portion 64 of theleg 60. - To use thus-configured footrest of the present invention, the
leg 60 rotates about thepin 48 to allow theleg 60 to stand upright to form a right angle with respect to thetop plate 32, and thesupport 70 rotates about theshaft 75 to allow theend 79 of thesupport 70 to get caught at thestopper portion 64 so as to maintain theleg 60 at the upright state. Subsequently, if needed, theslider 50 can be selectively drawn in the direction which permits theslider 50 to get far from thetop plate 32, and then, thesliding portion 52 of theslider 50 slides along anedge 36 of thetop plate 32. During sliding of the slidingportion 52, theprotrusion 56 moves from theclosing hole 45 to theextension hole 44 of thetop plate 32, and theend 53 of theslider 50 is brought into contact with theround portion 68 of theleg 60 to prevent theslider 50 from further sliding. Here, theslider 50 is pushed in the direction opposite to the sliding direction so as to be inserted into theclosing hole 45 of thetop plate 32, thus twosliders 50 nearly abut against each other. A user may extendsliders 50 to elongate the length of thetop plate 32, and retractsliders 50 to their original locations to return to the original length of thetop plate 32. - Although the present invention has described with an embodiment of the footstep having the top plate with two pairs of
closing holes 45 andextension holes 44, it would be also understood that the top plate has more closing holes or extension holes than two pairs. Further, theclosing holes 45 and theextension holes 44 might be formed alone, rather than in pairs. - When the footrest is not in use and hence stored, the
protrusion 56 of theslider 50 is inserted into theclosing hole 45, and theleg 60 is moved slightly in the direction to get off from thesupport 70. Then, thesupport 70 is detached from theleg 60, and theend 79 of thesupport 70 is brought into contact with the lower surface of thetop plate 32. Subsequently, theleg 60 is folded inwardly. When theleg 60 is folded, thestopper portion 64 is located within thesecond space 78 of thesupport 70, and thehook 62 gets caught at anedge 76a of thefirst space 76, thus preventing theleg 60 from rotating even when thetop pate 32 is lifted. The present invention employs thepin 48 in place of a hinge to allow theleg 60 to stand upright. - Description of Reference Numerals
