Description

The subject of this invention is an apparatus for docking and opening drums; those in question comprise a main portion in a container and an upper part forming a lid of this container.

Precautions must be taken when opening these drums for the purpose of loading or transferring their contents when it is toxic, radioactive or otherwise dangerous, since the contamination then spreads outside. The industries concerned have designed numerous docking and opening devices to solve this problem. Some consist of working in tight enclosures or kept in depression relative to the environment. Others include double door mechanisms in which the barrel is mounted on an opening, then closed by a door, leading to an insulated enclosure. The door covers the lid and grasps it by nesting their shapes when it is open, which separates the container lid together with the door from the opening and connects the inside of the barrel and the inside of the container. the enclosure. Seal systems allow the cover to form a closed cavity with the door, so that the contamination in the enclosure does not reach the top face of the enclosure. Similarly, other joints sealing means disposed between the opening of the enclosure and the container maintain the contamination in the enclosure and prevent it from reaching the outer face of the container. The entire outer surface of the barrel remains clean. These double-door devices are efficient and reliable, but it must be recognized that their constitution is complex as regards the mechanisms of union of the door to the cover that the necessary seals. We would often want a much simpler device, but usable in conditions where a small contamination of the outside is tolerated.

Such a device allowing a moderate contamination, which however incorporates certain principles of the double door mechanism, was designed for flat-lid oil drums. The edge of the container is lined inside a seal which comprises two lips at right angles: a cylindrical inner lip glued to the inner face of the container, and a flat lip joined to the bottom of the previous. The lid is introduced into the container by rubbing against the cylindrical lip until it abuts against the flat lip. The docking apparatus comprises a container holding flange and a coupling door to the lid first assembled to the flange. An inner ring of the flange, adjacent to the door, is touched by the upper face of the cylindrical lip of the seal when a docking has occurred. The door and the lid are then joined and can be coupled to each other. Then just lift the door to remove the container lid and open the drum. By covering the lid, the door protects its upper face from contamination, and the contact of the lower crown of the flange against the cylindrical lip of the seal maintains the seal provided by the flange and the container.

This design has the disadvantages of imposing a lock by mechanical means between the door and the lid, to apply to particular drums where the tearing force of the lid must be important since it is the seal that holds it back. by exerting a friction, and to impose a setting in precise position of the barrel under the flange since the crown in contact with the joint must be perfectly centered with him. Finally, this device applies only to flat lids.

The object of the invention is therefore to create a docking apparatus devoid of these disadvantages and apply to more drums, due to a lack of interaction between the docking device and a possible seal between the container and the lid of the drum.

In a general aspect, the invention relates to a dropping and dropping apparatus comprising a container and an upper lid, the apparatus comprising a barrel clamping flange in a flange opening and a gripping assembly and lifting of the lid disposed above the flange, characterized in that the flange comprises a first inflatable seal around the opening and which ensures the tightening of the barrel, and the assembly comprises a hatch mobile, which can be placed on the flange while wrapping the cover, and said flap comprises a second inflatable seal superimposed on the first inflatable seal when the flap is placed on the flange and which ensures the capture of the lid.

The superimposed inflatable seals allow to insert the container and the lid before separating them as soon as the hatch is raised from the flange, possibly without mechanical locking between the hatch and the lid. The contamination of the surfaces facing the external environment is then limited to the space between the two joints, which is very small if these joints are contiguous.

  • la figure 1 est une vue générale de l'appareil, dans un état où un fût est monté sur lui à l'état de fermeture ;
  • la figure 2 représente le système à l'état ouvert ;
  • la figure 3 représente une vue d'un joint bien adapté à l'invention ;
The invention will now be described by means of the following figures in its various aspects:
  • the figure 1 is a general view of the apparatus, in a state where a barrel is mounted on it in the closed state;
  • the figure 2 represents the system in the open state;
  • the figure 3 represents a view of a seal well adapted to the invention;
  • and the figure 4 illustrates a mechanical locking mechanism.

La bride 1 loge un premier joint gonflable 8, circulaire, à son sommet autour de l'ouverture 6.Referring to the figure 1 , the apparatus comprises as main elements a flange 1 and an upper assembly 2 working in cooperation to grasp and open a barrel 3 composed of a lower and cylindrical container 4 and a lid 5 mounted on the container 4. The flange 1 is circular and includes an opening 6 in which the top of the container 4 is engaged. It is generally attached to a horizontal wall 7 which constitutes a barrier between the external environment, here below it, and a closed enclosure 20, situated above and capable of being contaminated. The opening 6 is tapered, tapering upwards, to allow to center with sufficient precision the shaft 3 when it is raised under it. The flange 1 houses a first inflatable seal 8, circular at its apex around the opening 6.

The upper assembly 2 essentially comprises a hatch 9 bulged upwards and into a cavity from which the lid 5 penetrates. The hatch 9 is articulated to the flange 1 by a hinge 10 of horizontal axis. A second inflatable seal 11, also circular, is disposed under the hatch 9 immediately adjacent to the first inflatable seal 8 when the device is closed (state of the figure 1 ). A lock exists between the hatch 9 and the flange 1: it is constituted by a rocking bolt 12 set opposite the hinge 10; when it is raised, it prevents lifting the hatch 9, but when it is folded aside, their disjunction becomes possible.

The figure 3 represents one or the other of the inflatable seals 8 and 11 in section: they are composed of a chamber 13 of rectangular section and a pad 14. The latter is provided with reliefs 15 facilitating the attachment to the container 4 or 5. It is flexible, in particular to its flanks 16 flat and parallel to each other and which lead to extreme radial faxes: they are corrugated so that the blowing of gas into the chamber 13 expands the seal inwardly so that the pad 14 encloses the container 4 or the lid 5.

Another aspect of the invention also appears in figure 4 . It consists of bars 17 located under the hatch 9 and articulated to it by turnstiles 18. The axes of the turnstiles 18 being vertical and the bars 17 being parallel and horizontal, they can be turned towards each other so as to enclose a flange 19 protruding from the top of the lid 5.

The operation of the apparatus can be described as follows. A drum 3 is first hooked below him by a conveyor or any other means of transport. The barrel 3 is raised in the opening 6 until the junction portions of the lid 5 and the container 4 come in front of their respective inflatable seals 11 and 8. They are gripped by these swelling joints. By raising the hatch 9, the lid 5 is then lifted from the container 4 and accompanies it. The barrel 3 being open, what represents the state of the figure 2 it can be filled by the top of the wall 7. Inverse movements are then undertaken to lower the hatch 9, deflate the seals 8 and 11 and remove the barrel 3. The inflatable seals 8 and 11 produce a seal sufficient to retain sufficiently the barrel 4 and the lid 5 and to lift the latter. The bars 17 can be used to offer an extra precaution by being brought closer to each other. way to come under the flange 19 and provide additional support.

We see that the device is very simple. The contamination is limited to exposed surfaces inside the enclosure 20 in the open position of the figure 2 and then find themselves on the outside environment. These are portions of surfaces between the inflatable seals 8 and 11 for the device and the connection between the container 4 and the lid 5 for the shank 3. These surfaces are located at the zones 21 and 22. The seals 8 and 11 being very close to one another in the closed state, they are very small.
