Die Lage der Drehpunkte und die Länge der Verbindungselemente sind so aufeinander abgestimmt, dass eine optimale vorbestimmte Schwenkkurve des Gehäusedeckels die Funktion als Schutzkappe zum Verschließen des Steckergehäuses wie auch zum Verriegeln mit einem entsprechenden Gegenstecker geeignet ist.

In der Fig.1 ist in einer nur die wesentlichen Merkmale aufweisende Seitenansicht eines Steckverbindergehäuses zur Montage auf einem elektrischen Gerät dargestellt.
Das Steckverbindergehäuse 10 ist mit einem verschlossenen Gehäusedeckel 20 gezeigt, wobei Gehäuse und Deckel mit Verbindungselementen 30 miteinander verbunden sind, die an jeder der Seitenwände angeordnet sind. Dabei sind die Seitenwände 15 und 25 über den eigentlichen Rahmen, in dem ein Steckverbindereinsatz zu positionieren ist, zur Rückseite des Gehäuses hinaus verlängert. Wobei der Gehäusedeckel 20 auf seiner Rückseite noch über das Steckverbindergehäuse 10 hinausragt.
Auf der Gehäuserückseite ist zwischen den Seitenwänden von Gehäuse und Deckel eine Strebe 31 angeordnet, die mittels, aus dieser Sicht, verdeckter Zapfen 12 am Steckergehäuse 10 und Zapfen 22 am Gehäusedeckel den eigentlichen Drehmechanismus der Verbindung präsentiert.
Weiterhin ist jeweils ein Verbindungselement 30 an den Seitenwänden 15 und 25 mit Zapfen 14 und 24 angeordnet.
Das Verbindungselement 30 ist als dreiseitiges, flächiges Element ausgestaltet und weist eine aus einer Einbuchtung 35 herausgeformten Rastnase 36 auf.
Während das Verbindungselement 30 zwischen dem Zapfen 14 und der Rastnase 36 die Einbuchtung 35 aufweist, sind die Schenkelseiten 34 und 32 zwischen den Zapfen 14 und 24 sowie dem Zapfen 24 und der Rastnase 36 gerade ausgeführt.
Mittels eines an der Vorderseite des Gehäusedeckels angeformten Griffes 28 ist die hier verriegelt gezeigte Darstellung entriegelbar, wobei der Gehäusedeckel auf etwa 120° aufklappbar ist.
