The invention concerns a casing for a ball, in particular for football, in which two groups of differently shaped polygonal partial surfaces are sewn together at their edges. In order to improve the properties of the ball, the first group comprises equilateral triangular surfaces (1) and the second group comprises hexagonal surfaces (4). These surfaces (4) are in the form of a rectangle with an adjoining triangle on each of two opposite sides.

Description

The invention relates to a ball cover, in particular for soccer balls, of a multiplicity of polygonal parts sewn together at the edges, which belong to two groups of different shapes, of which the first group consists of equilateral triangular parts and the second group consists of hexagonal parts.
Such ball covers usually consist of groups of differently shaped polygonal parts, which are suitably connected, in particular sewn, in such a way that a round ball is formed. It is also common to use two groups of different polygonal parts, with known ball covers either having a total of 32 or 18 individual parts, and the size and design of the individual parts having to be selected such that the ball which is produced the dimensions required by the International Football Association (FIFA). In particular, the circumference of the football must be between 68 cm and 72 cm.
Because of the boundary conditions mentioned, the individual parts are always polygonal, for example pentagonal or hexagonal. The individual parts are sewn together at the edges, the sewing being done manually, because machine sewing in the required quality is not possible or would be very cost-intensive.
Hinzuzufügen ist noch, daß der Ball nicht nur in seinerWith regard to the state of the art, reference is made in particular to German Patent No. 37 26 830 and the introductory remarks made there on the present problem. It should also be added that the ball is not only in its
Hierbei sind jedoch einander widersprechende Anforderungen zu erfül¬ len, so daß eine Verbesserung in einem Punkt bisher stets eine Verschlechterung in einem oder mehreren anderen Punkten mit sich brachte.REPLACEMENT BLAπ (RULE 26) Roundness, but also in the weight distribution of the individual parts must be balanced so that the ball keeps the desired flight path when shooting. It is therefore always the aim of the manufacturers of such balls to achieve the best division of the ball cover into individual parts. In this case, however, contradicting requirements have to be met, so that an improvement in one point has always resulted in a deterioration in one or more other points.
The invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a ball cover of the type mentioned at the outset which is improved with regard to the points mentioned, without disadvantages having to be accepted at other points. The ideal ball shape should be achieved without any loss of quality.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the hexagon parts have the shape of a rectangle, in which a triangle is added to each of two opposite sides, one side of which coincides with the assigned side of the rectangle and the other two sides of which are as one another also match the corresponding sides of the other triangle attached.
With such a division of the ball cover, it is advantageous if a total of twenty individual parts are used, twelve hexagon parts and eight triangular parts being used per ball cover and the area ratio of a hexagon part to a triangular part in contrast to all known ball covers 1: 1 is.
With these inventive features, a ball cover can be produced in which each side of a triangular part is sewn to a longitudinal side of a hexagonal part, so that each triangular part is surrounded by three hexagonal parts and four tips of the six parts collide. By sewing all the abutting edges together, a largely ideal ball cover is created, in particular for a soccer ball.
The edges of the triangular parts are preferably slightly convex.
Another development of the invention consists in that the shape of the hexagon parts has a triangular recess which is introduced into one of the two sides of the rectangle between the two added triangles and has a shape which is complementary to the corners of the triangle parts. The precise combination of these two groups of individual parts results from the following description of an exemplary embodiment.
The invention set out above brings a number of essential advantages over the prior art, the following list not being exhaustive.
The use of twenty individual parts enables an approximately ideal division of the two groups of individual parts, namely twelve hexagon parts and eight triangular parts, which results in a rounder ball than in 32 or 18 individual parts. Furthermore, compared to ball sleeves with 32 individual parts, there is a saving in punching and thus also a cost saving. In addition, it should be noted that the individual parts must be sewn manually, as has already been explained above, so that with fewer individual parts, more ball casings per unit of time can be produced without accepting disadvantages. With 18 individual parts, one also saves many work steps compared to 32 individual parts, but this involves considerable disadvantages. Another advantage of the new ball cover is that, because of the same surfaces of the two different individual parts, there are no problems with stretching when the ball is inflated. The equally large areas also allow the bail circumference to be easily adapted to FIFA requirements from 68 cm to 72 cm. When the ball is inflated, there is an even expansion pressure at all points of the ball cover, so that the ball becomes rounder than with different surface sizes of the different individual parts. The larger surface area of the individual parts, due to the use of only twenty individual parts, also brings about a better bouncing behavior of the ball, since a greater indentation occurs when the ball bounces than with a smaller surface area, which means that a larger poten¬ tial energy is stored, which can then be converted into a larger kinetic energy.
The inventive design of the two groups of individual parts also requires that the seams are shorter overall and at the edges of the individual parts. This is important because the greatest abrasion of the ball occurs there. It should also be pointed out that the weight and thickness of the individual parts play an important role, which can advantageously be taken into account in the case of the ball according to the invention, so that the ball has ideal properties when playing.
Another advantage of the ball cover according to the invention is that the kicked ball achieves a desired goal better than conventional balls. The ball according to the invention practically does not deviate from the trajectory due to its largely perfect roundness and balancing of the individual parts over the circumference of the ball cover. If, on the other hand, a ball is not perfectly round and balanced, the hit ball flutters in the air. The ball according to the invention enables a manageable trajectory and reaches a destination without deviating from it. The speed of the ball according to the invention is also higher than in conventional balls because of its almost perfect roundness.
As already mentioned, the ball according to the invention requires fewer sewing stitches, so that less thread can also be used. More balls can be produced per time unit and the production costs are lower.
