Definitions
- the present invention relates to a heat exchange element with a tubular body and surface enlarging elements present thereon consisting of a number of fins welded to the outside of the body and pointing outwards from the latter, the tubular body and the entire fins being made of carbon steel.
- a heat exchanger is known from WO-A-9 002 917.
- finned tube heat exchangers which are also referred to as finned tubes
- finned tubes are known in a wide variety of designs and are used for various purposes.
- such finned tubes are very often used for cylinder steam boilers.
- generic finned tube heat exchangers have long been used for extracting heat from the flue gases as they pass through flue gas tubes, the flue gas tubes extending vertically upwards through the water and steam space above the boiler firing.
- the finned tubes are arranged coaxially to the flue gas tubes and within the flue gas tubes and connected to the water and steam space mentioned in order to ensure heat transfer to the medium in question here.
- a disadvantage of these known finned tubes is that a tendency to form cracks in the weld joint between the fins and the tubular body or between the latter and adjacent parts of the fins has often been found. This tendency is particularly noticeable for ribs which are bent by a cold deformation after welding to the tubular body, but can also occur with other ribs. In practice, the tendency to crack formation described above can cause serious problems. Very small initial cracks that arise during the production process can actually grow larger despite their originally minimal size Broaden cracks and gradually weaken the ribs in such a way that they are broken off from the tubular body by applying greater mechanical forces, such as those that occur, for example, when cleaning the flue gas ducts in which the finned tubes are arranged.
- the purpose of the present invention is to provide an improved heat exchange element of the type described in the generic type, in which the risk of cracking as described above is largely eliminated.
- the finned tube heat exchanger proposed according to the invention is characterized in that the fins are made from a carbon content with a significantly lower carbon content than the carbon content of the carbon content used for the production of the tubular body.
- the invention is based on the knowledge that the tendency towards any cracks, which is found in known finned tubes, can be attributed to the fact that the material in the parts of the fins that adjoin the tubular body is heated and then cooled when the fins are welded on the tubular body, get an increased brittleness due to the accidental hardening.
- the invention also proceeds from the finding that this inadvertent hardening is related to the fact that the fins were previously made from normal commercial grade carbon steel with approximately the same carbon content as the material used to make the tubular body.
- tubular body is usually made of a carbon steel with a carbon content of at least about 0.1%
- Ribs are preferably made from a material with a carbon content of at most about 0.05%.
- the ribs can preferably be produced from a material with a carbon content of only about 0.03%.
- the use of a steel with a very low carbon content in the ribs proposed according to the invention results in a further advantage in addition to the above-mentioned reduction in the risk of crack formation.
- the low carbon content leads to an improved thermal conductivity of the ribs, and thus to an improved thermal efficiency of the ribs and consequently to an improved total heat transfer coefficient of the tubular body.
- the cylinder steam boiler shown only partially in FIG. 1, generally designated 10, is provided with a furnace 11 and a pressure vessel 12 present above it, the latter forming the water and steam space of the boiler.
- Various vertical flue gas pipes 13 extend through the pressure vessel 12 and discharge the flue gases from the furnace 11 to a flue gas hood 14 located above the pressure vessel 12, from which the flue gases can be drawn off via a flue gas outlet 15.
- each flue gas pipe 13 there is a finned-tube heat exchanger, generally designated 16, consisting of a tubular body 17 and surface enlarging elements arranged thereon.
- these surface enlargement elements consist of a large number of ribs 18, one end of which is welded to the outside of the tubular body 17 and which protrude outwards from the body.
- Each finned tube heat exchanger 16 is provided at its lower end with an inlet line 19, by means of which the heat exchanger with that formed in the pressure vessel 12 Water and steam space is connected via an opening 20 in the wall of the associated flue gas pipe 13, while the heat exchanger is provided at its upper end with an outlet line 21, by means of which the heat exchanger with the pressure vessel 12 via an opening 22 in the wall of the flue gas pipe 13 communicates.
- the finned tube heat exchangers 16 can be provided with fins 18 which protrude in radial directions from the tubular body 17 and which are at least the same length over most of the tubular body.
- the ribs 18 can preferably be formed in the manner shown in FIG. 3, namely with a decreasing length in the direction of the lower end of the tubular body in order to ensure this that they are not exposed to excessive warming.
- the upper part of the tubular body can also be equipped with bent ribs of greater length, ie after the normal ribs have been welded to the tubular body. Such a longer and bent rib 18 'is indicated in Fig. 2 with dash-dotted lines.
- Both the tubular body 17 and the ribs 18 are made of carbon steel.
- the tubular body 17 is in a known manner made of a material with an appropriate carbon content of at least about 0.1% in order to achieve the desired strength properties.
- the material used for the production of the ribs 18 should preferably have a maximum carbon content of approximately 0.05%. If the ribs as indicated in Fig. 2 for the rib 18 'is after welding on the tubular If the body is exposed to a deformation, it is advisable to manufacture these ribs from a material with a carbon content of only about 0.03%.
- the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and shown in FIGS. 1-4, but can also be used for finned tube heat exchangers of another design. 5, 6 and 7, examples of other uses for finned tube heat exchanges 16 ', 16' 'and 16' '' are illustrated.

Description
- Fig. 1
- Fig. 2
- Fig. 3
- Fig. 4
- Fig. 5-7
16''' veranschaulicht.
