Abstract

Remote-control interrupter of the type comprising an auxiliary change-over switch interposed between the coil of the said interrupter and two parallel control conductors. The prop (5a) for the moving contact of this auxiliary change-over switch is mounted pivotably on the moving prop (3a) for the main contacts of this interrupter. Elastic thrusting means tend to ensure stability of the prop (5a) for the moving contact of the switch in each of its positions. However the arrangement is such that the kinematics of this prop (5a) includes two separate axes of tilt (C-D and E-F) which lie on either side of the axis of tilt (A-B) of the mechanism of the interrupter. Thus, the tilting of this prop (5a) into a new position can thus take place only after tilting of the mechanism of the interrupter. This interrupter can be employed for any of the usual uses of interrupters of this type. <IMAGE>

Description

Unlike contactors, the remote control switches have two stable positions. They are usually controlled by pulses which feed their electromagnet; which, by means of an appropriate mechanism, reverses the position of the contacts to be controlled.

Thanks to the impulse control, the remote switches have, compared to the contactors, the advantage of not requiring the maintenance of a current in the winding.

On the other hand, in the case of a remote control, it is not always able to know the position of the contacts, unless using a control lamp.

Another drawback of remote control switches appears when they are coupled in parallel, that is to say when a pushbutton is connected to several remote control switches. In this case, it happens, when the control pulses are too short, that certain remote control switches do not switch, while the others switch normally, the response times may be slightly different. In this case, the contacts of the remote control switches no longer being in agreement, it can result in serious disorders and in any case, the need to call in a professional for troubleshooting.

To overcome these drawbacks, it has been imagined to provide the remote control switches with an auxiliary inverter inserted on its control circuit so as to ensure this control by one or the other of two conductors separate respectively comprising a start button and a stop button, this inverter itself being actuated by the mechanism of the remote control switch during operation thereof. Thus, such a remote control switch itself interrupts the pulse which causes its tilting, in one direction or the other.

In such a remote control switch, the pulse sent in one of the control conductors, from the start button, causes the main contacts to close, while the pulse sent in the other conductor, from the push button "stop", causes the opening of these same contacts. It is the kinetic energy of all the moving parts which then allows the neutral point of the remote control mechanism to pass and the travel of the moving parts to be completed.

However, it may happen that a very short command pulse does not provide the energy necessary to cross neutral. If, in such a case, certain remote control switches were to shift, the next pulse, of correct duration, would readjust them. In fact, only the remote control switches that have not been inverted would receive the control pulse.

However, during too short pulses, it may happen that the auxiliary inverter, controlling the coil of the remote control switch, stops in its neutral position. This occurs when the duration of the pulse corresponds exactly to the energy necessary to bring the mechanism of the remote control switch to neutral. In such a case, the two contacts of the reverser then being cut simultaneously. Consequently, the remote control switch is immobilized in this position and it is impossible to operate it electrically.

The care taken in manufacturing such a device can reduce this risk, but cannot completely eliminate it; indeed the springs which ensure the tilting and the stability of the two extreme positions become ineffective when passing from neutral, because on the contrary they cause friction which is at its maximum and which favors immobilization in this position.

This is why the object of the present invention is to produce a remote control switch of the type in question, that is to say a remote control switch provided with an auxiliary reverser, the design of which is such that the mechanism thereof cannot no way to be immobilized in the open position of the two contacts of this change-over.

To this end, the remote control switch according to the invention is characterized in that
the support of the mobile contact of its auxiliary change-over is pivotally mounted on the mobile support of the main contacts of this remote control switch between two distinct closing positions determined by the movement of this mobile support in one direction or the other,
elastic thrust means tend to ensure the stability of the support of the movable contact of the reverser in each of these positions,
- but the arrangement is such that the kinematics of this support comprises two distinct tilting axes, which are located on either side of the tilting axis of the remote control mechanism,
- And that the tilting of this support in a new closed position can only take place after the tilting mechanism of the remote control switch.

Under these conditions, there can therefore be no immobilization of the support of the movable contact of the auxiliary inverter in an open position thereof.

In an advantageous embodiment of this remote control switch, the support of the movable contact of its auxiliary change-over is constituted by an arm pivotally mounted on the movable support of the main contacts and forming a toggle system with an element carrying a thrust spring and whose l the opposite end is articulated on the movable support of the main contacts, while the fixed contacts of the reverser are arranged on either side of the tilting axis of the remote control mechanism.

The mechanism thus formed has a very high operating reliability. Furthermore, its installation inside the corresponding remote control switch is very easy to perform.

However, other particularities and advantages of the remote control switch according to the invention will appear during the following description. This is given with reference to the attached drawing for information only, and in which:
  • FIG. 1 represents the connection diagram of a remote control switch provided with an auxiliary inverter.
  • FIG. 2 represents the parallel connection of several remote control switches of this type on two control conductors, corresponding respectively to the "on" and "off" function.
  • Figure 3 is a schematic top plan view of the installation of the auxiliary inverter of a remote control switch according to the invention in the movable support of the main contacts thereof.
  • Figure 4 is a similar view illustrating the operation of this auxiliary inverter.
  • Figure 5 is a perspective view of the organs principal of this reverser, these being represented before their assembly inside the support of the main contacts of the remote control switch.
  • FIG. 6 is a perspective view of these same members after assembly and mounting inside a housing provided in the movable support of the main contacts of the corresponding remote control switch.
  • Figure 7 is a side elevational view of an exemplary embodiment of a remote control switch according to the invention.
  • FIG. 8 is a similar partial view on the opposite side of this same remote control switch.

As indicated above, Figure 1 illustrates the connection mode of an auxiliary changeover switch. This remote control switch, which is designated by the general reference 1, comprises a coil 2 actuating the movable support 3 of the main contact or contacts to be controlled.

The auxiliary reverser of this remote control switch is inserted into the circuit 4 for supplying the coil 2 and the support 5 of its movable contact is itself actuated by this coil. On the two fixed contacts 6 and 7 of this auxiliary changeover are connected two control conductors 8 and 9 each comprising a pusher 10 or 11, one of which corresponds to the "start" function and the other to the "stop" function ".

As already indicated, the pulse sent into the conductor 8, from the start push-button 10, causes the closing of the main contact or contacts 3 of the remote control switch as well as the reversal of the movable contact 5 of the 'auxiliary reverser, which is placed against the second fixed contact 7 thereof. Under these conditions, the subsequent actuation of the pusher 11 will be able to supply the coil 2 of the remote control switch to cause the opening of the main contact or contacts 3, as well as a new reversal of the movable contact 5 of the auxiliary reverser.

As shown in FIG. 2, it is possible to connect the control of several remote control switches 1 of this type in parallel. This makes it possible to control the operation of all of these from two common push-buttons 10 and 11. However, either or both of the remote control switches can also be controlled by a local push-button 12 connected directly to the coil of the corresponding remote control switch.

In these figures, the members which correspond to those represented in the diagrams of FIGS. 1 and 2 are indicated by the same reference numbers assigned to the index "a".

The two fixed contacts 6a and 7a of the auxiliary reverser are then arranged opposite this slide 3a on a line MN parallel to the axis of movement of the latter, and on either side of the tilting axis A-B of the main contacts of the remote control switch. As described below, these are the positions thus provided for these two fixed contacts which determine the two axes of tilting of the auxiliary reverser. As for the support of the movable contact of this reverser, it consists of an arm 5a pivotally mounted at an intermediate point O of its length, on the slide 3a.

As shown in Figures 5 and 6, this pivoting arm may consist of a metal pallet, one of the ends of which carries a double contact 13 constituting the movable contact of the auxiliary reverser. The opposite end 14 of this pallet is engaged at inside a cage 15 of molded insulating material. This cage has two V-shaped notches 16 inside which are engaged two shoulders 17 provided on the edges of the pallet 5a. Thus, the bottom of the notches 16 of the cage 15 materializes the pivot axis O of this pallet, which can be struggled inside an opening 18 of the cage 15.

The end 14 of the pallet 5a ends in a point 14a which is engaged inside one of the flared ends 19 of a tubular piece 20 in the form of a hollow rivet. This piece serves as a support for a pressure spring 21 which bears on the bottom of a seat 22 provided in the cage 15. The opposite end of this spring presses on the end 14 of the pallet 5a so as to ensure the stability of the latter in both of its two extreme positions for closing the corresponding contacts.

The assembly thus formed is placed inside a housing 23 provided in the slide 3a of the remote control switch. It should be noted that this housing 23 can indifferently receive the cage 15 or a set of conventional contacts in the case where it is desired to make an ordinary remote control switch. The electrical connection of the movable contact 13 with the coil of this remote control switch is ensured by a metal braid 24 which is welded to the tubular guide 20 carrying the spring 21.

Thanks to the arrangement provided, the pallet 5a is articulated inside the corresponding end of the tubular guide 20 serving as a support element for the spring 21. As for the opposite end of this spring, it can s 'articulate itself somehow in the bottom of its seat 22 by elastic bending of the turns of this spring. The assembly thus produced constitutes an elastic toggle mechanism whose unstable neutral position is determined by the alignment of the pallet 5a on the transverse line XY passing through the axis O and the central point of support of the spring 21. In this position the latter is compressed to the maximum.

When the slide 3a of the remote control switch is in one of its extreme positions, for example that shown in FIG. 3, the pallet 5a is kept stable in an angulation position relative to the element 20 carrying the spring 21. Thus the movable contact 13 is then held against the contact 6a. However, when the slide 3a is in its opposite extreme position, the folding of the toggle mechanism, constituted by the pallet 5a and the element 20, is itself reversed so that the movable contact 13 is then kept stable against the contact fixed 7a.

However, thanks to the arrangement provided, the mechanism of the auxiliary reverser has two distinct tilting axes, CD and EF respectively, which are arranged on either side of the tilting axis AB of the remote control mechanism and are sufficiently spaced. of each other. Each of these tilting axes is determined by the alignment of the transverse line X-Y already defined, with the axis of the movable contact 13 in its support position on one or the other of the fixed contacts 6a and 7a. However, it is the existence of these two tilting axes and their respective positions which make it possible to prevent the auxiliary inverter from remaining in an open position during the operation of the remote control switch.

Pour ce basculement il est nécessaire que le coulisseau 3a poursuive son mouvement jusqu'à ce que la ligne transversale X-Y de l'inverseur soit déplacée au-delà de l'axe de basculement C-D dont la position est définie par le point d'appui sur le contact fixe 6a.Indeed, when from the position shown in Figure 3 the slider 3a is moved in the direction of arrow F1 and the transverse line XY of the inverter comes into coincidence with the tilt axis AB of the mechanism of the remote control switch (position which is represented in FIG. 4), this is not sufficient to cause the tilting of the pallet 5a. For this tilting it is necessary for the slider 3a to continue its movement until the transverse line XY of the reverser is moved beyond the tilting axis CD, the position of which is defined by the fulcrum on the contact fixed 6a.

It is therefore only well after crossing the axis A-B of the remote control mechanism that the tilting of the auxiliary inverter can take place. Under these conditions if, for one of the reasons explained in the preamble to the present description, there is an immobilization of the mechanism of the remote control switch in its neutral position, the auxiliary reverser is not likely to then find itself in position opening, since its pallet 5a has not yet been actuated. Consequently, it is thus ensured that this inverter can then transmit to the coil of the remote control switch, the next pulse which will complete the tilting thereof.

Of course, the same phenomenon occurs during movement of the slider 3a in the opposite direction. Indeed, the reversing of the inverter can only take place after the transverse line XY of the reversing element has largely exceeded the tilting axis AB of the remote control mechanism and has reached the second tilting axis EF of the auxiliary inverter.

Figures 7 and 8 show a practical embodiment of a remote control switch equipped with an auxiliary inverter according to the invention. This remote control switch, which is of the type described in French patent 2,309,032 of the applicant company, comprises a box 25 of flat shape enclosing both the magnetic control system thereof and the associated mechanism. There is therefore provided a coil 26 actuating a movable armature 27. The latter carries a thrust rod 28 whose opposite end actuates a pendulum 29. This the latter constitutes the control member of the slide 3a carrying the main contacts of the remote control switch.

As shown in FIG. 7, these contacts 29 are mounted, in their middle, inside a housing 30 provided on one of the faces of the lower part of the slide 3a. As for the previously described auxiliary inverter, it is carried by the opposite face of the lower part of the slider 3a, which face is shown in FIG. 8. It is therefore on this face that the slider 3a has a housing 23 at l 'inside which is placed the cage 15 containing the constituent elements of the auxiliary inverter.

As for the fixed contacts 6a and 7a of this reverser, they are provided opposite the corresponding part of the slide 3a, as already described above.

Thus, the mounting of this auxiliary inverter in the present remote control switch is extremely easy to perform and the presence of this inverter does not raise any particular difficulty for the manufacture and the mounting of the present remote control switch.

However, it goes without saying that the remote control switch shown in Figures 7 and 8 is only one embodiment. In fact, for its part corresponding to the very function of remote control switch, the design of the device and its arrangement could be different, the reverser mechanism described above being able to be adapted to different types of remote control switches.
