Description

The invention relates to a filter mouthpiece for a smoking product, in particular a cigarette, with a filter strand surrounded by a mouthpiece wrap layer with an essentially circular, oval or lenticular cross-section, in which the smoke flowing in the direction of the filter longitudinal axis is deflected from the direction of flow in the region of the mouth-side filter strand end.

Filter mouthpieces of the aforementioned type are known from European laid-open specification No. 0025327, FIG. 5, and from European laid-open specification No. 0039591. In the known embodiments, the smoke arriving at the mouth end of the filter strand is deflected by flow obstacles.

The smoke concentration in certain filter areas leads to a positive influence on the taste of the smoke that occurs. However, the known embodiments have the disadvantage that, in any case, at least one additional work step is required after the usual steps in the manufacture of cigarettes in order to attach the flow obstacle to the smoke exit surface.

The invention is directed to a filter mouthpiece of the type mentioned at the outset which can be processed in the course of conventional cigarette production at unchanged high production speeds, the special measures for filter modification being able to take place before the tobacco and filter strands are joined together.

This object is achieved according to the invention by a filter mouthpiece in which the mouthpiece wrapping ends on the mouth side at a distance from the end of the filter strand and the protruding end of the filter strand is tapered in the direction of the flow of smoke, the smoke flowing out from the end of the protruding filter at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the cigarette.

As far as the mouth end of the filter mouthpiece of the filter mouthpiece of the invention is formed by oblique, flat surfaces, the smoke stream is deflected from the longer part of the filter strand during smoking and emerges approximately perpendicular to the oblique surfaces, with the desired positive taste effect, in particular in the case of so-called light cigarettes sets. The same applies in the event that the delimiting surfaces are curved; with a suitable shape, the smoke flow will normally find the shortest way out of the filter, i.e. Flowing out obliquely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the cigarette, and not the longer way in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the filter.

Filter tips of the invention can generally be processed in conventional cigarette machines. In modern cigarette machines, the cigarettes are manufactured in such a way that the tobacco strands covered with paper are attached to the two ends of a double filter; The double filter is then cut vertically and in the middle with a rapidly rotating knife.

The manufacture of filter mouthpieces with several boundary surfaces requires somewhat different measures; it is particularly simple if the protruding ends of the filter strands are blunt at their ends and their shape is rotationally symmetrical with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the cigarette, e.g. in the manner of a truncated cone, spherical segment, truncated ellipsoid or in a step-shaped taper. It is then only necessary to make a corresponding recess in the middle of a double filter, after which the double filter, after being combined with the tobacco rods, is cut through vertically in the center of the recess.

The protruding filter strand end of the filter mouthpiece of the invention is preferably substantially conical or frustoconical, spherical, dome-shaped or spherical segment-shaped, in the manner of an ellipsoid or ellipsoid segment or stepped.

However, several planes and / or planes which are each inclined to one another, e.g. spherically curved surfaces may be provided, e.g. conical end faces with the tip in the direction of flow, i.e. Pointing to the smoker's mouth. The delimiting surfaces of the mouth-side filter strand form an angle α of at least 5 °.

According to a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the angle α is 20-45 °. With frustoconical filter ends, however, angles α of up to 75 ° are also possible.

The invention is not only applicable to filters with air impermeable but surprisingly also to those with air permeable tip paper, i.e. applicable to so-called side-ventilated filters.

Further features of the invention will become apparent from the following description of preferred embodiments, reference being made to the drawings. The applicability of the filter mouthpiece of the invention is not limited to cigarettes; it can also be used for example in cigarillos and the like.

  • Fig. 7, the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 in plan view, seen from the mouth side of the filter strand end.

The filter mouthpiece according to FIG. 1 comprises a filter strand 2 placed on a tobacco rod 1, which is wrapped in a mouthpiece covering paper 3. If necessary, a connecting sheet, not shown, can also be provided for connecting the filter and tobacco rod. The filter strand 2 is cut vertically at its end adjacent to the tobacco strand 1 in the usual way. At the mouth end of the filter rod end, the delimiting surfaces 4 of the filter rod 2 form an angle a of e.g. 45 ° with the formation of a cone 9. Since the filter strand 2 is made of fibers customary for cigarettes, e.g. Cellulose acetate fibers or foamed, open-pored filter material, there are no problems due to the formation of the mouth end of the filter strand, e.g. regarding the leakage of filter material.

The embodiments according to FIGS. 2-6 relate to other configurations of the filter mouthpieces of the invention, the mouth-side filter strand end of which also protrudes beyond the mouthpiece covering paper 3. As can be seen from the drawings, the filter strand 2 can be configured on the mouth side in the form of a truncated cone 10, a hemisphere 11, a hemisphere segment 12 or in the form of tapered steps 13. The preferred directions of smoke outlet are marked with arrows.

The embodiment according to FIG. 6 is particularly suitable for cigarettes with an oval or lenticular cross section, because in this case the smoke e.g. according to the preferred direction of smoke flow according to the arrows according to FIG. can be directed into the cheek cavities of the smoker.

The smoke exit surfaces of the mouth-side filter strand end of the embodiments according to FIGS. 1-7 can also be partially airtightly sealed; the suitable positions for this are e.g. 7 with the reference numeral 14.

Cigarettes with mouthpieces of the type shown here have a significantly fuller smoky taste than those with conventional filter mouthpieces. In addition, the sharpness and scratchiness of the smoke are reduced. The filter effect of filter mouthpieces modified according to the invention is the same as that of conventional filter mouthpieces. No changes in the composition of the smoke components were found.
