Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for producing lids from sheet metal for containers, in particular cans, in which lid blanks are punched out from a sheet-like or strip-shaped sheet, provided with a pouring area, preferably in the form of a plurality of punched-out openings which are close together, formed and provided with a a corrosion-preventing protective layer is provided, whereupon a flexible sealing strip is applied to the lid surface by gluing or heat sealing in order to hermetically seal the opening area.
  • Lids of the type on which the method is based are known, for example, from US-A-3292828 or DE-A1-2519 709. However, lids are also possible in which only a single removal and / or ventilation opening is punched into the lid.
  • This object is achieved in that after punching a hole pattern determining the pouring area, this is passed through an electrochemical cleaning bath, the current strength of which is maintained at a value sufficient to remove the punch burr while simultaneously chamfering or rounding off the edges of the openings on both surface sides of the sheet that the sheet then receives a tin or chrome layer.
  • the removal of the punch burr reliably prevents the formation of corrosion in the area of the opening edges.
  • the rounding of the opening edges in particular on the side opposite the punching ridge, facilitates the reliable and hermetic application of the flexible sealing strip and prevents the opening edge from cutting into the material of the sealing strip when the sealing strip is applied and extreme stress, thus weakening the sealing strip to an undesired extent.
  • a chrome-plated sheet metal coil is assumed, and after the electrochemical cleaning and deburring, as well as chamfering or rounding, only the punched edges are post-tinned or post-chrome-plated. This ensures a continuous manufacturing process in the context of mass production in a particularly efficient manner.
  • the cover 1 shown in plan view in FIG. 1 has in the cover mirror 5 a group of closely spaced openings 2 forming a hole pattern and at a distance from these two further openings 3.
  • the openings of the hole pattern 2 form the pouring area, while the openings 3 serve to ventilate the interior of the container during the pouring of the contents of the container.
  • the lid has a lid edge 6 in the usual way, which can be connected, for example, by folding to the edge of a container body.
  • a band-shaped tear-open element 4 for the hermetic sealing of both the pouring area and the ventilation opening, a band-shaped tear-open element 4, indicated only by dashed lines, made of flexible material is used, which is hermetically sealed by gluing or heat sealing sealingly connected to the surface of the cover mirror 5 and can be detached from the cover mirror by at least partial tearing up so far that the pre-punched openings are exposed.
  • the hole pattern can also consist of only a single removal or pouring opening and / or ventilation opening.
  • the lids are made from sheet or ribbon-shaped sheet metal.
  • the cover blanks can first be punched out of the sheet metal and then provided with the hole pattern and further processed.
  • the perforated pattern for the pouring area and for the ventilation openings is preferably punched into the sheet-like or strip-shaped material in such a distributed manner that in a later process step the lid blanks or intermediate products can be punched out in transverse strip strips from the material prepared in this way.
  • the starting material is aluminum sheet, but in particular iron or steel sheet of suitable and customary qualities for the production of lids.
  • the openings are created by punching from one top of the sheet. As shown in FIG. 2 on a larger scale, there is a relatively sharp edge 12 on the penetration side of the punching tool and a punching ridge 13 on the exit side of the opening 11, which protrudes considerably beyond the underside of the sheet.
  • a protective layer is applied to the sheet, the punching ridge is also covered by the protective layer. Due to the sharp edges of the ridge, a sufficiently thick formation of the protective layer is not possible in this area, so that there is always the risk that, in cooperation with the contents of the closed container, exposed or exposed areas of the iron or steel sheet with a progressively spreading point Corrosion begins, which changes the taste or the color of the filling or makes the filling inedible.
  • the opening edges 22 and 23 of the sheet 20 are deburred.
  • the edge 13 is removed according to Figure 2, but in this area and in the leading edge 22 of the opening 21, the edge itself is chamfered or rounded, so that there is a smooth area transition from the top of the sheet 2 to the peripheral wall of the opening 21 .
  • the preferred way to manufacture the lid of FIG. 1 with opening edges 22 and 23 of FIG. 3 is that the z. B. unwound from a coil sheet metal strip 30 moves according to arrow 31 in Figure 4 from left to right.
  • the raw sheet or black sheet is first provided with the opening pattern 33 responsible for the pouring area and ventilation by punching. This takes place in the punching station 32 indicated by the arrow.
  • the dashed circles 36 merely indicate the punching edge along which the sheet metal blanks for the covers are punched out of the sheet metal strip 30 at a later time. After punching the holes, the sheet metal strip 30 runs through a station 34, in which the sheet metal is cleaned electrochemically.
  • the setting of the electrochemical bath in connection with the dwell time is such that at the same time the ridge 13 as well as the sharp edge regions of the edges of the holes are removed analytically by the electrical current in order to form an edge corresponding to the edges 22, 23 of FIG. 3 to reach.
  • the sheet metal After leaving the cleaning station 34, the sheet metal passes through a coating station 35.
  • the sheet metal is preferably tinned or chromed.
  • the sheet treated in this way then passes into a separating station 37, in which either the individual sheet rounds 36 are punched out of the sheet or transverse sheet strips are cut off with a series of sheet rounds, which are then individually separated and treated further.
  • the deburring according to the invention is carried out by an increased current attack on the punched edges.
  • the current intensity parameter depends on the size of the punch burr to be removed, which is mechanically scanned and the values of which are entered in an electronic current control.
  • the sheet is coated with a protective lacquer, preferably in the roll coating process, the punched edges being covered by capillary action.
  • the cover profile is produced by stamping, at the same time the individual covers are punched out of the sheet metal or sheet strips running transversely to the coil are cut off with a series of cover blanks and then the individual covers are punched out.
