Description
Method of Making Secondary Emission Electrodes The invention concerns a; Application process using cathode sputtering for secondary emission layers and Fäto layers made of alkaline earth compounds or alkaline earth metal or for layers., which consist of alkali or potassium metal compounds, in which pure alkali, Alkaline earth or other metals or rental alloids are stored. The procedure: According to the invention, that is to be provided with the active layer Electrodes are placed on a metal plate during cathode atomization serves as an anode. The plate is evacuated into the cathode atomization Vessel inserted. Opposite you is a metal plate, which from which on the Electrode to be sputtered is made of metal. Furthermore, means are provided to a To generate electron flow to the impact electrodes located on the plate, when it hits these seconds, it gives off a suitable amount of it Wise is genvessen. This allows the manufacturing process of the secondary emission electrodes monitor.
The invention is illustrated by the figures. In Fig. R means r a glass vessel into this with the help! this; Cut z the anode part: e 3 inserted is, which carries electrodes q, and 5, which are provided with an active layer: should be. The cathode plate 6 consists of, because metal or metal to be atomized the metals to be atomized. The plate spacing is preferably reduced as long as that the discharge is just evenly distributed over the surface in the interior: burns so that an optimal evaporation speed is achieved will. The backs of the panels are either covered with insulating material (mica, etc.) Protected from the start of the discharge, or the glass wall becomes so. close to the anode plate or cathode plate arranged; that the discharge between the Plates. and. the wall does not burn towards the back of the plate; can. That, used-garbage gas des Entia.d@ungsrohTes i depends on the type of secondary emission layers to be produced An inactive or an active gas can be used as the filling gas: As a responsive one Gas comes z. B. Oxygen in question, while as an inert gas "-: Noble gases or nitrogen be used. Further gas additives can be used in small quantities. the atomization and in this way increase the booster speed. In most cases, the Oxygen must be present in the discharge space. The metal particles sputtered from the cathode the diauni combine with the oxygen to form oxides, which: the covering of the secondary emissions 5 form. If only noble gas is used as filling gas "then: is used in cathode atomization just pure metal vapor dusted on. The void mixture of the two types of guest results A secondary emission layer, with the metal oxides and embedded free metal are mixed together in the right proportion.
Essential in running the process is also the temperature which the secondary electrodes at. Vapor deposition: accept the layer. Depending on the need, the electrodes or. the E. electrode holder T 3 is heated or be cooled. In the former case it is best to use one around, that Vessel i placed around the flat frequency coil 7, through which the electrode carrier 3 is heated by induction. The electrode holder can be cooled by a tubular carrier 8, preferably by means of compressed air.
A particularly strict adherence to the temperature behavior, eats then necessary when it comes to the. Manufacture of secondary emis, siionsschic.hte-n which consist of a metal oxide with embedded free metal. In this Case recommended. it is advisable to echo the electrode holder relatively coolly, as long as the production of the layer by cathodic sputtering continues. Is the Production of the layer is finishedi, then the gas content of the vessel is: i pumped out and the electrode holder is heated, so that the free metal atoms are in the Distribute oxide evenly.
For the invention it is essential that the properties of the the layer produced during the production process, ongoing checked «-be able to earth. For this purpose there is a vessel inside the NI'akuu: m suitable electron source arranged through which electrons continuously or at intervals on the Sek undäremii: ssious cbichten can be delivered, the Sekun: därelekbronen there omit. Lead of the ano, according to Eig. i is used for this purpose: a glow electrode! G. the Electrons supplied by diciser collide with the secondary emission electrodes aluf and there trigger sec: uud; ary electrons. These secondary electrons are produced by: of the plate 6 connected as an anode during the test of the layers. The secondary electrical current is gei mwss, en. From his Gräßle or the species its increase may affect the properties of the layer closed.
Even a little better and more precise than- the procedure just described the arrangement according to Fig. a. This arrangement corresponds essentially to that of FIG. R, but is the electron source arranged here in an opening in the plate 6. Be through this opening from the electron quie: l: le io the secondary electrodes resting on the plate 3, with electrons: shitty. The triggered secondary electrons are from the Plate! 6, which is connected as an anode during the test, was added.
The new manufacturing process for the electrodes of multiplier tubes is not only easy to implement, but allows what (is particularly important :, Due to the special type of arrangement of the electrodes: an ongoing check of the multiplier: ungsfäktors, so that the steaming process at the right moment can be canceled. Also for the formation process, i. h .. for heating your electrodes for the purpose of a more even mixing of the individual, layer components, eats the possibility of an ongoing review of the layer properties, from: Meaning.
