Electric Melting Furnace and Method of Operation It is over
known to the industrial and scientific researches of the last decades
become that the atmospheres in which metals and alloys (including
Steels) are melted, of crucial importance for the quality of the melted
Products are. It has therefore been noticeable for some time now that the
Arbitrarily influencing the atmosphere in which the melting process is to take place.
The endeavor continues to move the melted metals and alloys in a void-free,
to obtain a favorable structure for processing. Below is a construction
a melting furnace described that this task in a particularly simple and reliable
Way solves.
In diesem Rohr a befindet
In
angebracht.A melting furnace built according to the basic concept outlined above is shown schematically in Fig. R and 2. Therein, a means a tube which is made of a non-conductive or semiconductive material and protrudes or is elongated below the base of the furnace. The crucible b, which stands on a support c, is located in this tube a. The pipe a is surrounded by a heat-insulating masonry or the like at a suitable distance. The space between the masonry d and the pipe a is filled with horned coal grit. The bottom plate e. on which the entire furnace is built, has on its outer edge an annular rim f which can be filled with sand, oil or some other sealing agent. Inside this ring-shaped edge f there is a cylindrical jacket a, which has a further ring-shaped edge h on its upper edge, which can be filled in the same way with a suitable sealing agent. The edge of the lid i rests in this annular space. In the middle of the lid, for example, a sight glass k can be arranged through which the melting process in the crucible can be monitored; also are on the lid i. Gas supply pipes l attached.
After the melting process has ended, the support c on which the crucible b rests can be lowered so that the crucible b gradually moves into colder zones. First, the bottom of the crucible is cooled and the result is that the crucible contents solidify from the bottom upwards and thereby the crucible content is retained as a void-free block. This process can be assisted by cooling the lower end or the extension of the tube a in a suitable manner, for example by means of a copper spiral through which water flows. It is also possible that - support c herabzusenken so far that the crucible from the bottom part comes out of the pipe a and is then deflated in a conventional manner by casting. An arrangement of the following type is particularly advantageous: a container nt lined with fire-resistant, heat-insulating material is attached under the lower opening of the tube a, which container nt can be tilted about an axis zt = ground; a hole is left at the bottom of the container n so wide that the crucible support c goes straight through it while the thicker crucible b remains seated in the container m. If you lower the support c (which is also hot at its upper end), the wall of the container m is preheated; if the support c is lowered sufficiently, the crucible b remains seated in the container nt, while the support c emerges from the bottom of the container and thus releases the container to tilt about the axis it. The melt can then be poured out in the usual way by tilting it about the axis it.
rohrförmigen Kanal o an.
In dem Heizrohr a schichten
It is also possible to operate such a furnace continuously.
For this purpose, a brickwork is placed in the brickwork surrounding the layer of coal
tubular channel o an. New crucibles or melting units can be placed in this

The column can be pushed off and pushed over the heating pipe a. Layer in the heating pipe a

Gas ohne Wechsel. Dadurch wird eine schädliche Beeinflussung des Tiegelinhaltes
durch wechselnde Gase bzw. Luft verhindert.
Atmosphäre in wirklich reinem Zustand. Dadurch wird es ermöglicht, daß mehrere verschiedene
Gase bzw.
Since the furnace is encased in a gas-tight, bell-shaped manner above the base

the gas can escape from the lower opening of the tube a at any time. The feed
the gases through pipes installed in the lid of the furnace is much more useful
than the way previously used in furnaces working with protective atmospheres,
to introduce the gases from below. In this case the gas introduced rises
in a single flow thread in the furnace interior upwards without it being the one before
