Description
Method of Making Biuret The present invention relates to a process for the production of biuret by the thermal treatment of urea.
It is known that when urea melts, biuret is formed. Up to now it has not been possible to use a thermal treatment of the urea receive significant amounts of biuret. The long-known procedure. at the 48% biuret obtained from urea consists in passing urea through Heat to 140 to 1500 C while introducing chlorine gas for so long in the melt holds until it takes on a part-like appearance. The introduction of the chlorine gas will now interrupted, the residue dissolved with water and the resulting biuret through The addition of lead acetic acid freed from the cyanuric acid formed at the same time and filtered. The filtrate is defleaded with hydrogen sulfide and evaporated. The biuret will then from water, finally from dilute ammonia. recrystallized.
This procedure is not only cumbersome, but also results also not a satisfactory yield.
It is also known to biuret by heating urea in a vacuum to produce, but the lowest possible reaction temperature above the Melting point of the urea should be. Because of the too high reaction temperature Even with this method, you only get 53 ° to today at Riuret. The separation of the nearly 50,010 suturing products is very difficult and takes time correspondingly long.
Another method of making biuret is heating Urea at temperatures between 120 and 1300 C. However, in order to carry out the process required liquefaction of the urea at this temperature To achieve, foreign substances such. B. acid amides added will. Since the biuret itself is an acid amide, the subsequent treatment can be avoided Separation of these additives from the end product due to the similar behavior is considerable Trouble.
Surprisingly, it has now been found in accordance with the present invention. that biuret can be obtained in a simple manner with good yield. if you have urea at least about 70 hours in the presence of liquid chemically inert substances, the density of which is equal to or greater than the density of the heated reaction mass, z. B. simple and chlorinated hydrocarbons, at temperatures between 110 and heated to 1320 C.
It is expedient to stir vigorously during the reaction. That liquid medium can boil during the reaction. But it can also be an inert Gas can be passed through the non-boiling or boiling medium, or the Reaction can be carried out in the liquid medium with the additional application of vacuum will.
The biuret made according to the invention can be used for many purposes be used, e.g. B. for syntheses and for the production of plastics.
The invention is explained in more detail using two examples: Example 1 100 parts of urea are mixed with 250 parts of technical, anhydrous tetrachlorethylene with a boiling point of 1200 C under reflux for about 90 hours. That Solvent is kept with moderate boiling. Transform after the end of the reaction the reaction product. without cooling down, in a tough class. The solvent is distilled off. After recrystallization of the residue from water and drying the crystals obtained have a melting point of 1930 C.
Die Ausbeute an wasserfreiem Biuret beträgt 85.3 Teile. The yield of anhydrous biuret is 85.3 parts.
Example 2 100 parts of urea are at 650 torr with 500 parts of a technically pure, saturated hydrocarbon (mineral oil distillate) with a lower boiling point of about 2200 C at about 1200 C with stirring in a container Heated for 100 hours.
Die Ausbeute an Rohbiuret beträgt 85,3 Teile. The yield of raw biuret is 85.3 parts.
