Description
The present invention relates to a method for the heat treatment of a molding pressed from a material powder and a pressing aid in a continuous furnace. The process is also referred to as sintering.
During sintering, first of all a molded part is pressed from a mixture of material powder, in particular metal or plastic powder, and a pressing aid. The pressed molding is also called a green compact. The molding is heat-treated in a continuous furnace having an evaporation section and a sintering section. Before the actual sintering process in the sintering section, the pressing aid must first be removed from the molded part. To remove the pressing aid, the molding in the evaporation section is heated to a temperature at which the pressing aid evaporates. Subsequently, the temperature of the molded part is increased in the sintering section to a temperature below the melting temperature of the material powder, being made by surface diffusion between the Werkstoffpulverteilchen a connection between the Werkstoffpulverteilchen and thus the molded part is bonded.
In order to obtain an optimum sintering result in the actual sintering process, it is necessary for a reducing atmosphere to be present in the sintering section, which is realized, for example, by introducing hydrogen (H 2 ).
Despite the measures described above, such as introducing the gas against the transport direction of the molded parts and the controlled varying the Ausdampfbedingungen, can not always be prevented that the vaporized gaseous components of the pressing aid get into the sintering section. Due to the presence of the evaporated pressing auxiliary components and the high temperatures in the sintering section, carburizing of metallic materials in the sintering section regularly occurs. For example, the conveyor belt of the continuous furnace, which is produced regularly from high-alloy heat-resistant steel, is carburized in the sintering section and cooled down again outside. This intermittent carburizing and decarburizing of the conveyor belt leads to grain growth, depletion of alloying elements and embrittlement, which in turn can lead to a significant shortening of the life of the conveyor belt and production loss, which in turn leads to increased production costs. In addition, the sintering process is impaired by the inevitable carburization of the metallic material powder. Thus, inter alia, excessive soot formation in the sintering section is observed, as well as a reduction in density and an increase in the hardness and brittleness of the sintered shaped parts.
The object of the invention is therefore to overcome the problems described with reference to the prior art at least partially and in particular to provide a method in which the sooting of the system and the carburization of metallic materials in a sintering section of a continuous furnace is avoided.
These objects are achieved by a method according to the features of the independent claim. Advantageous embodiments of the method are specified in the dependent formulated claims. The features listed individually in the claims can be combined with one another in any technologically meaningful manner and can be supplemented by explanatory facts from the description, wherein further embodiments of the invention are shown.
- a) introducing the molded part into the evaporation section,
- b) heating the molded part to a temperature suitable for evaporation of the at least one pressing auxiliary in the evaporation section,
- c) passing the molding from the evaporation section into the sintering section,
- d) heating the molding to a below the melting temperature of the at least one Material powder lying temperature in the sintering section,
- e) introducing at least one oxidizing gas into the sintering section.
The material powder preferably comprises metallic powders, in particular powders of iron, copper, molybdenum, bronze and / or stainless steels with incorporated hard materials, such as, for example, tungsten or titanium carbide).
Auflage”)The pressing aids preferably comprise stearates in which a very high proportion of bound hydrocarbons is contained. Zinc stearate is particularly preferably used as a pressing aid (see, for example, "Kieback, Bernd (ed.): Powder Metallurgy: Technologies and Materials, 2nd Edition").
The continuous furnace can be formed by a plurality of individual ovens arranged one behind the other, wherein in each oven independent of the other ovens temperature is adjustable. Alternatively, the oven may comprise exactly one oven in which a predeterminable temperature profile is adjustable, the portions being characterized by the operating temperatures. Optionally, the individual sections of the oven can also be separated by aprons or the like, for example, to reduce the gas exchange between the individual sections. Preferably, the moldings by means of a transport device, for. B. a conveyor belt, transported from an inlet of the continuous furnace to an outlet of the continuous furnace. The molded part thus first passes through the evaporation section and then the sintering section on the conveyor belt. The sintering section of the continuous furnace is usually followed by cooling zones, in which the sintered shaped part is cooled, usually under a protective gas atmosphere.
The temperature present in step b) is at least high enough so that the pressing aid can completely evaporate, but not so high as to produce a compound of the material powder, in particular the temperature in step b) is between 250 ° C. and 700 ° C., preferably between 400 ° C and 600 ° C.
The temperature present in step d) is in particular so high that a compound of the material powder is formed, but this does not melt in particular the temperature in step d) is between 800 ° C and 1500 ° C, preferably between 1000 ° C and 1300 ° C. ,
According to the invention and contrary to the opinion available so far, an oxidizing gas is introduced into the sintering section. The oxidizing gas is intended to oxidize the gaseous auxiliary pressing components which have entered the sintering section, so that carburizing of the metallic materials in the sintering section is suppressed. The carbon potential in the sintering section, which represents a measure of the possible carburization, is thus lowered to an uncritical level, and is in particular above the soot limit.
Preferably, the oxygen partial pressure in the sintering section is measured and. In particular, the carbon potential in the sintering section can be determined via the oxygen partial pressure, so that the amount of oxidizing gas introduced in step e) can preferably be regulated as a function of the carbon potential. The measurement of the oxygen partial pressure can be effected by means of known oxygen probes or known lambda probes. It is so long as the gas flow of the oxidizing gas introduced increased or decreased until a predetermined oxygen partial pressure is reached or until in particular a carbon potential of less than 0.2% is reached.
Very particularly preferably, carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is introduced as oxidizing gas in step e).
It is also preferred that a base gas comprising at least nitrogen (N 2 ), hydrogen (H 2 ) and / or methane (CH 4 ) is introduced into the continuous furnace in the opposite direction to a transport direction of the molded part. The base gas may change in composition according to the requirements of the individual sections of the continuous furnace. Thus, it is preferred that in the sintering section a gas mixture of at most 5% oxidizing gas and the remainder base gas is introduced, wherein the base gas in the sintering section comprises at most 2% methane, 3% to 10% hydrogen and the balance nitrogen.
In particular, the gas mixture composition depends on the nature of the molded parts, that is to say in particular on the geometry, the material powder used, the molding aids used in the moldings, and the transport speed of the moldings, and so on.
It is particularly preferred that the pressing aid is a stearate.
According to a further aspect of the invention, a continuous furnace for carrying out the method according to the invention is proposed, comprising an evaporation section, a sintering section, a transport device for transporting the molded parts from an inlet to an outlet of the continuous furnace and at least one gas line for introducing gases into the sintering section.
Preferably, the continuous furnace comprises a measuring sensor for measuring the oxygen partial pressure in the sintering section.
Preferably, the continuous furnace further comprises a control device which is connected at least to the measuring sensor or a controllable valve in the at least one gas line.
The details disclosed for the method according to the invention can be transferred and applied to the device according to the invention and vice versa.
