Description
The present invention relates to a process for converting old railway vehicles and more particularly a concept of modernization of old railway passenger cars as part of a development policy.
The economic context can put railway companies in difficult situations to maintain a fleet of modern and attractive vehicles. Often, for lack of means, they must give up the acquisition of new equipment. They are looking for alternatives in the modernization of old vehicles. As a result, many companies have included retrofit in their regionalization investment program. Motivated by this market need, several railway manufacturers have specialized in renovation.
All the concepts developed are aimed at upgrading older old cars by modernizing interior fittings, renewing seats widening access doors, improving comfort with air-conditioning, increasing speed and reducing rolling noise by placing revised bogies or new bogies under the crates. At the same time, a new exterior livery is applied.
Despite this major renovation, most of these cars do not meet the requirements of passenger comfort in terms of ease of access. The walking conditions remain difficult. The time is long to get in or out of the car. Difficulties for people with reduced mobility are not resolved and caring for disabled people with wheelchairs is almost impossible. These criteria are of paramount importance for vehicles destined to assume a regional operation.
The present innovation aims to achieve a concept of transformation of old cars to overcome these various disadvantages, so as to bring the quality of comfort for travelers to the current standards of new railway equipment.
To achieve these objectives, there is provided a method of transforming railway vehicles and a railway vehicle obtained by this method, as defined by the features of claims 1 and 12.
By these characteristics, a transformation process is carried out making it possible to obtain modernized vehicles ensuring a quality of comfort for the passengers corresponding to the standard of the current modern railway equipment. In particular access to the vehicle is facilitated even for people with reduced mobility. The process is economical and easily achievable and provides a wide and varied range of rail vehicles.
The cutting of the body of the donor vehicle is traced so as to simplify the reassembly work and to ensure the resistance of the modified vehicle economically, for example by an overlap between the part of the body remaining at the initial height and the part of the box lowered.
Favorably, as fixing means, a compensation module serves as a structural and functional connection between the vertically offset body sections; this compensation module is advantageously a door module or a combined window-door module, this compensation module being arranged between the body sections lowered and not lowered so that the door of this module gives access to a lowered floor area.
These compensation modules make the junction between the upper part and the lower part of the body obtained. They are also multifunctional because they provide easy access to the vehicle and they constitute connecting elements between the two staggered body sections.
An advantageous embodiment is characterized by the fact that the body of a single old railway vehicle is divided into three body sections and the median body section is fixed in a lowered position by means of door modules to end body sections not lowered.
These characteristics make it possible to obtain a modern low-floor railway vehicle at a particularly low cost price.
Another favorable embodiment is characterized by the fact that the boxes of two old railway vehicles are sectioned along a first cutting line to obtain two end box sections, and the two boxes are sectioned according to a second section. second cutting line to obtain two median body sections, which is inserted between the two lowered median body sections and the end box sections not lowered a door module and that the two body sections are connected medians lowered by means of a central bogie on which support two articulation modules each fixed to a median body section, to obtain a low floor articulated car in an area defined by the two body sections of end.
This results in an articulated rail vehicle with a large low floor area directly served by several access doors.
Yet another embodiment is characterized by the fact that several old railway vehicles are divided into three body sections, each of whose middle body section is lowered and equipped at both ends with a combined door and window module. a hinge module supported on central bogies, the two median body sections located at the ends being each connected via a door module to a non-lowered end box section, to obtain a rail train several low-floor cars.
These characteristics make it possible to manufacture very modern railway trains with continuous low floor from old railway cars and this in a very economical and rational way.
The present invention also relates to railway vehicles obtained by the method described above which are characterized in that the box consists of at least three cut and rearranged box sections comprising two end box sections and at least one section of the box. median box and in that this or these median body sections are fixed in a lowered position to the two end body sections not lowered by means of fastening means and by appropriate cutting lines so as to constitute a vehicle low-floor railroad.
Other advantages emerge from the features expressed in the dependent claims and from the following description explaining the invention in more detail with the help of drawings which show schematically and by way of example several embodiments. Fig. 1 shows a first embodiment of the process of converting an old car or railway vehicle donor into a low-floor car by adding two door modules. Fig. 2 shows a second embodiment of the process of converting two old donor cars to a low floor articulated car, by adding two door modules and two articulation modules equipped with a low median bogie.
Fig. 3 shows a third embodiment of the process of converting two old donor cars to a low-floor articulated four-access door car by side, by adding two door modules located at the rear of each end bogie. and two combined window-door modules with a hinge in the center of the two boxes equipped with a low median bogie. Fig. 4 shows a fourth embodiment of the process of converting a whole series of old cars donors to a train of cars with low floor consists of a pilot car and intermediate cars. Door modules, joints, lowered bogies and a cockpit are associated with this modernization. Fig. 5 illustrates a simplified embodiment.
In the various figures are represented, in the first line, the donor railway vehicle (s) 1 and the cutting plot 2, 2a, 2b for the door modules, the cutting plot 3 for the hinge modules and the cutting plot 4, 4a for the combined window and hinge modules.
The recovered body sections are represented in the second line of the figures. The body sections 7, 7a, 7b, 7c of the ends of the boxes remain at their initial level and the central body sections 8, 8c, 9, 9a and 10 are lowered to obtain a part of the vehicle low floor.
The elements 5, 5a, 5b are unrecovered portions of the donor vehicles. The door opening 6 of the donor vehicle is closed and replaced by a window.
The new modules to be integrated between the sections of the recovered boxes are represented in the third line of the figures except for FIG. 5 where this line is missing. There are door modules 22 which each consist of a door 11, a door frame 12 and connecting elements 13 and 14. The door module provides the connection between the two body sections 7 and 8, respectively 7, 7a, 7b and 9, 9a.
Indeed, the connecting elements 14 are formed so as to make the connection with the side members of the body section 7, 7a, 7b and integrate the access steps to the upper platform of the section 7, 7a, 7b. The extensions 13 of the door frame compensate for the level height between the two body sections 7 and 8, respectively 7, 7a, 7b, 9, 9a. Depending on the structure and the solicitation of the body, it is possible to replace the element 14 directly by the extension of the longitudinal members of the section of the body 8, 9, 9, respectively, by modifying the cutting path.
Fig. 2 represents in the third line in addition to the door modules, articulation modules 15 and a central bogie 16. The structure of the articulation modules 15 connects with the body sections 9 and incorporates the articulation device and the support on the truck 16.
The central bogie 16 is very compact design and allows to stay in this area low floor.
Fig. 3 represents in the third line the new components to be added to the sections of the recovered boxes. There are two door modules 22, two articulation modules 15 with a central bogie 16 and two combined window-door modules 17.
Fig. 4 represents in the third line a door module 22, two articulation modules 15, two central bogies 16, two combined window-door modules 17 and a control cabin module 18.
On the last line of fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are shown the assembled vehicles 23, 27, 29, 32, 41 in their new architecture. These refurbished, retrofitted cars offer a significant portion of floor in lowered area. All doors are installed at the bottom and provide easy access for all travelers. Thus transformed by a clever retrofit technique, these old cars are raised to the same level of comfort and accessibility as the most modern developments of regional transport.
By adding a fairing 19 on the roof of lowered body sections, the exterior aesthetics of these cars can be adapted to all wishes.
With reference to FIG. 1 concerning the first embodiment of the transformation process, the donor vehicle 1 consisting of a conventional rail car, is cut along the cutting lines 2 shown in dashed lines. As illustrated in the second line of fig. 1, two end-body sections 7 and a central body section 8 are thus obtained. The elements 5 of the donor vehicle are not recovered and used for the reconstruction of the transformed vehicle 23.
To obtain it, the door modules 22 are integrated between the end box sections 7 which remain at their initial level and the median box section 8 which is lowered at a vehicle with a low or low floor. The portions 14 of the door model 22 are thus fixed to the longitudinal members of the end box section 7 and the extensions 13 are fixed to the upper part of the median box section 8.
The door openings 6 of the donor vehicle 1 are closed and replaced by a window 24. Finally a fairing 19 is mounted on the roof of the median box section 8 lowered.
This results in a railway wagon with a low floor area and large doors with easy access and quick access to travelers even mobility reduced. Handicapped persons with wheelchairs are also facilitated. The cutting of the body of the donating vehicle 1 is drawn in such a manner as to ensure a great resistance of the transformed vehicle 23. A large overlap, in the form of an extension of the end box sections 7, covers the door modules 22 and a part of the median body section 8. This overlap provides a high rigidity and strength of the converted vehicle 23.
The door modules 22 are shaped so as to serve as connecting element between the end box sections 7 not lowered and the median box section 8 lowered by having access steps between the levels of these two staggered sections. .
They also provide direct access and full foot to the bottom floor of the converted vehicle 23 and expanded access doors. The duration to access the car or to get off the car is greatly reduced for all people. The transformed vehicle therefore meets the requirements of a regional operation with frequent stops.
The second embodiment illustrated in FIG. 2 provides an articulated rail vehicle 27, providing a large area with low floor and easy access, from two conventional donor vehicles 1. These are cut on the one hand along a cutting path 2a similar to that previously described and on the other hand along another cutting plot 3 shown in dashed lines. This produces two end body sections 7a similar to those of the first embodiment, and two median body sections 9 to be lowered. These median body sections 9 are fixed as in the first embodiment by means of a door module 22 to the end body sections 7a.
In their central part, these median body sections 9 are attached to articulating modules 15 which articulate and are based on a central bogie 16 of very compact design allowing a low floor area occupying the two median body sections 9. The second body sections 5a of the ends, as well as the elements 5 of the donor vehicles are not recovered. The door openings 6 of the donor vehicles 1 are closed and replaced by a window 24 and shrouds 19 are mounted on the roof of the median body sections 9. The rail vehicle 27 thus obtained is articulated in the center, offers a large floor area low and wide doors giving direct access to said area.
The third embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3 is quite close to the previous one. It differs from this by the fact that combined window-door modules 17 are integrated between the median body sections 9a and the articulation modules 15. For this purpose the cutting path 3 is replaced by the cutting path 4 giving rise to a major extension intended to constitute a rigid connection with the window-door combination module 17 and the articulation module 15. In addition, the cutting path 2 is moved from one window outwards relative to the second execution mode.
The transformed vehicle 29 obtained thus offers, in addition to the large low floor area and the doors 11, two other doors 30 giving access to the central portion of the low floor area. The times of entry and exit of people, the security and rigidity of the links between modules and sections are further improved in this embodiment.
The fourth embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4 makes it possible to obtain a train 32 of several low floor articulated cars starting from conventional railway vehicles 1. In order to obtain the external pilot car, a conventional vehicle 1 is cut in a manner similar to the second embodiment according to the cutting lines. 2a and 3. In addition, the end 35 of one of the outer body sections is removed to obtain an end box section 7b. The latter is assembled via a door module 22 to the body section 9 which is in the lowered position. The other body section 5a and the element 5 are not preserved.
To obtain the intermediate cars 36, conventional vehicles 1 are cut symmetrically along the cutting lines 4a and only the median box section 10 is preserved, the other two end body sections 5b are not preserved.
The median body sections 10 are attached to articulation modules 15 by means of combined door-window modules 17 as in the third embodiment. The articulating modules 15 rest and are articulated on central bogies 16. The set of cars thus connected forms a train with a low floor area over almost the entire length of the train 32. Each car of this train has an access door 11 leading into the low floor area. One or both ends of the train are provided with the cockpit module 18 and fairings 19 of adequate shape are fixed on the roof.
A simplified variant of the invention is illustrated in FIG. 5. The donor vehicle 1 is here constituted by a conventional rail car having a central access door 40. This donor vehicle is cut along the cutting lines 2b adequate. Two end body sections 7c and a central body section 8c are thus obtained. The latter is lowered at a low floor vehicle and fixed in this lowered position by adequate fastening means, such as riveting, welding, screwing, the end box sections 7c not lowered to obtain a railway vehicle to low floor 41 having at least one door giving access to the low floor area. A fairing 19 can be mounted on the roof of the median box section 8c lowered.
It is understood that the embodiments described above are not limiting and that they can receive any desirable modifications within the frame as defined by claim 1. In particular, the door modules could be replaced by the combined window-door modules and vice-versa. The cutting lines could be made differently depending on the construction of the donor railway vehicle and the desired body sections.
The original doors 6 could be preserved allowing additional access. The modes of execution of fig. 1 to 3 could also be equipped with one or two cockpits.
In the simplified variant of FIG. 5, the pre-existing central door 40 could also be missing. It will then be necessary to provide the lowered box section 8c of at least one door. The means for fixing the vertically offset body sections may also consist of compensation modules which function as a structural and functional link between the sections which do not have doors and / or windows, but allow rigid attachment of the sections of checkout.
