B. im Journal of the American Dental Association 56 (1958) 375.

Process for the manufacture of dental repair material
In the dental laboratory, repairs to broken prostheses or changes to them or e.g. B. the production of orthodontic appliances is usually carried out at room temperature with a cold-curing mixture of polymer powder and monomeric liquid (D. P. 737 058) on a plaster model. The polymer powder preferably consists of a particularly finely divided bead polymer of methacrylic acid methyl ester and / or its copolymers with acrylic and methacrylic acid esters.
The monomeric liquid is usually methyl methacrylate to which a sufficient amount of stabilizers has been added.
In order to be able to cure the modeled dough made of powder and liquid at room temperature on the cold, mostly still slightly damp plaster base in the desired short time, a particularly effective catalyst system is required. In most cases, with certain modifications, the combination of a peroxide of the type of benzoyl peroxide with an aromatic sulfinic acid (D. P. 816 156; 1 077 870) or with a tertiary aromatic amine (D.P. 775 072) is used for this purpose.
The aim is to achieve the desired rapid curing at room temperature by as high a dosage as possible. You could indeed by irradiation or by a little heating, z. B.
to body temperature, but such additional measures are considered too unwieldy. For the example of activation with peroxide and amine there is information about the influence of increasing catalyst dosages on the reaction rate, e.g. B. Journal of the American Dental Association 56 (1958) 375.
However, an increased dosage of the catalyst is very soon set a limit by side reactions, e.g. B. the mass begins to discolour, or there are more bubbles. As a result, efforts are made to get by with the smallest possible amount of catalysts.
It has now been found that mixtures of pulverulent bead polymers and monomeric methyl methacrylate can be cured more cheaply at room temperature with the known catalyst combinations if acrylic or methacrylic acid esters are added to the monomeric methyl methacrylate in an amount of 1 to 50%, which are at least in the alcohol residue carry an alcoholic OH group.
The invention therefore relates to a process for the production of dental repair material by assembling a mixture which contains a bead polymer of predominantly methacrylic acid ester, a monomeric liquid consisting of at least 50% by weight of monomeric methyl methacrylate and a catalyst which is effective at room temperature, characterized in that: Acrylic and / or methacrylic acid esters with at least one alcoholic OH group in the alcohol residue are used as a component of the monomeric liquid, in an amount of 1 to 50% by weight, based on the total amount of the monomeric liquid.
Components to be added which may be mentioned are (meth) acrylic acid oxyethyl ester, glycerol monomethacrylic acid ester, diethylene glycol monomethacrylic acid ester.
Such an addition, preferably in an amount of 5 to 20%, to the monomeric methyl metharylate causes a higher rate of polymerization, so that a smaller amount of catalysts can be selected. In connection with this, the amount of residual monomers remaining in the cured product is reduced.
A further advantage is based on the lower volatility of these additional monomers, so that the monomer does not evaporate as quickly from the surface against air, especially on thin layers, before curing as when using monomeric methyl methacrylate alone.
Finally, the dough behavior and the consistency of the dough are also favorably influenced during the production of the hardenable mixture.
