Description
Alliage réfractaire L'invention concerne des alliages à base de tung stène contenant des additions de carbone et de haf nium. Les récents développements de l'aviation et des véhicules spatiaux ont créé une demande de métaux possédant une grande résistance à températures éle vées, mais restant ductiles à températures relative ment basses. En outre, les températures de recristalli- sation de ces métaux doivent être très élevées. Les matériaux connus ne sont pas satisfaisants pour la plupart des emplois à haute température et c'est l'un des objets de la présente invention de fournir des al liages ayant les caractéristiques nécessaires. Les alliages selon la présente invention sont à base de tungstène et comportent de petites propor tions de carbone et de hafnium. Ce sont des alliages ternaires contenant de 0,004 à 0,05 % de carbone et de 0,01 à 2'% de hafnium, le reste étant du tung- stène. On obtient la meilleure combinaison de pro priétés mécaniques et de facilité de fabrication pour une application donnée, en faisant varier la propor tion des constituants dans l'intervalle indiqué plus haut. En particulier, les alliages de l'invention pos sèdent, à la température de 16500 C, une résistance à la rupture comprise entre 1750 et 5200 kg/cm2 environ, alors que le tungstène pur a une résistance à la rupture de 1050 kg/cm2. La température au- dessus de laquelle ces alliages deviennent suffisam ment ductiles pour être travaillés (température de transition de cassant à ductile) est égale ou inférieure à celle du tungstène pur. La haute résistance à la rupture et la température de recristallisation élevée constatée dans les alliages tungstène-hafnium-carbone sont dues à la formation, au cours de la fabrication, de carbure de hafnium uniformément dispersé, dont les particules ont un diamètre compris entre 200 et 1000 angstroms. L'amélioration des propriétés ré sulte à la fois de la constitution chimique de l'alliage et de l'état d'agrégation de ses constituants . Il est propable que la transformation du hafnium au cours de la fabrication produise des particules de dimen sions indiquées ci-dessus, dispersées dans toute la masse. <I>Exemple 1</I> Du carbone et du tungstène élémentaires en pou dre sont mélangés avec de l'hydrure de hafnium, de façon à obtenir un mélange uniforme que l'on sou met ensuite à une pression d'environ 3500 kg/cm2 pour former une billette. La billette est ensuite frittée à 23000 C environ, pendant une durée approximative de 90 minutes pour assurer la diffusion complète des différents constituants, ce qui conduit à une solution solide de hafnium dans le tungstène, le carbone se trouvant partiellement sous forme de carbure de haf nium et partiellement sous forme de solution solide de carbone dans le tungstène. La billette est ensuite laminée, d'abord à une température comprise entre 1850 et 19500 C, puis finalement à une température de 15500 C, en feuil les ayant une épaisseur de 0,1 mm environ. Bien que l'on ait utilisé un procédé de métallurgie des poudres pour fabriquer ces feuilles, il est évidemment possi ble de préparer ces alliages par d'autres procédés, comme, par exemple, la fusion à l'arc sous vide. De même, la transformation mécanique peut être obte nue par d'autres techniques telles que: l'extrusion, le forgeage, l'étirage, pour produire la pièce de forme désirée. Les mesures de résistance à la rupture de température de recristallisation et de température de transition cassant à ductile, ont été exécutées sur un grand nombre d'alliages. La température de recristallisation est estimée en déterminant à quelle température la structure fibreu se de l'alliage corroyé disparaît complètement, fai sant place à une recristallisation complète. La tem pérature de transition cassant à ductile est mesurée en pliant une éprouvette corroyée avec un rayon de pliage égal à quatre fois l'épaisseur de la feuille jus qu'à un angle de 105o, à différentes températures et en déterminant la température minimum à laquelle la déformation peut se produire sans criques. Claims (1)
- REVENDICATION Alliage à base de tungstène contenant de 0,004 à 0,05 % de carbone et de 0,01 à 2,% de hafnium. SOUS-REVENDICATIONS 1. Alliage selon la revendication, contenant des particules de carbure de hafnium de dimensions com prises entre 200 et 1000 angstroms, dispersées de fa çon uniforme dans toute la masse. 2.Alliage selon la revendication ou la sous-reven- dication 1, contenant de 0,015 à 0,035 % de carbone et de 0,15 à 1,% de hafnium.
