Method and device for electroforming covering of the silver coatings of
Mirror with a protective blanket.

The subject matter of the present invention is a method and devices suitable for its execution which serve to electrolytically provide the silver coating of mirrors with a metallic protective layer, in particular with a protective skin made of copper.

The invention consists essentially in treating the mirrors in such a way that one mirror or a group of such mirrors is subjected to the electrolytic action. Another mirror or another group is brought into the bath and is subject to a preparatory electrolytic action.

The mirrors are thus treated in divided groups or cathode halves - expediently on carrier cathodes - in such a way that one anode is alternately placed opposite the other group or cathode half. so that as mentioned, during a covering work on one half the other cathode half of the preparatory

 executed in continuous sequence.

The devices used to carry out the method are particularly characterized by the arrangement of a displaceable anode frame in the bath. The frame. in which the anode is arranged in the form of carbon rods, takes up almost half of the container lengthways, and can be moved over the container lengthways. while the connection to the power supply is continuously maintained.

The split supports of the mirrors to be treated (expediently designed as support cathodes made of conductive material on which the mirrors rest with their glass surfaces) together have substantially twice the size of the anode surface and are both arranged in such a way that they are displaced vertically in the bath can determine the movements during which they should remain connected to the power source.

With this arrangement it is practically possible to alternately place the anode opposite the one and the other carrier and to guide the mirrors in a suitable uninterrupted sequence through the bath and soon the one. soon the other sub-carrier reap. to let the corresponding mirrors or groups of mirrors serve now as auxiliary cathodes, now as actual working cathodes.
